Does anyone know where I could still get a hold of a Dante card for this mixer? They seem to not be sold anywhere.

Auralex! The sound company I worked for in the 1990s used this product in some night clubs including a very large amount of Sheetblok to keep sound from getting in or out of a club in Laguna California on South Coast HWY which was once a Lodge of some sort, Elks I believe. The final sound figures came in -6dB less than the city requirement. The only mistake made not by us was the Fire Doors at the back of the space. After my boss was adamant to the customer, they still failed to have the steel door frames filled with sound deadening material. We were making the final EQ of the night club sound system (at around 3AM). I played a CD by Queen of the Hammond B3, Shirley Scott and the musical selection "When A Man Loves a Woman". The pedal bass tones not only to our awe seemed to shake the building, but the fire department claimed it also shaking the apartments directly behind. The Good Ole Days! :D

There is any microphone (only for amplification, no record feature) that works whiteout electricity/batteries?
@KL-rl4kk11 ай бұрын
So a sound amplifier? If so it'd be ine of those old timey megaphones where its basically a cone with a handle. Though i don't think theres any (to my knowledge) that without any form of electricity.

I found out about this microphone through the "Recording the Star Wars Saga" Analysis by Chris Malone. Apparently this microphone was used for the french horns in the 1977 STAR WARS film. I'm guessing it was used to maybe get a more vintage sound to match a "vintage" score with orchestral music in the midst of synth scores. Do you think this mic might have been used when recording the music of Korngold for movies like "The Seahawk". The RCA 44 was used for trumpets as well which is cool.

Intriguing microphone! I've never seen this one before. I'd love to know a few technical details beside the history. Is it just a passive element, or is it active? If the latter, what tube(s) and other details?

BBC in London, UK also had a condenser mic called 'Bomb' from 1931 onwards blog.nationalmediamuseum.org.uk/bbc-collection-stc-condenser-bomb-microphone/ Probably no connection ... just co-incidence! Incidentally your photo of Wes and the bomb mic show '82' in a curvy stencil characters; the photo in the book has '94' in the same characters: but your mic now has the numbers in crude squarer hand-painted characters. The aiming lines look different too. Maybe it was repainted after many years? Perhaps when the electronics moved from the external tube to the interior of the sphere?

I have a matched pair with desk stands and the Sony reel to reel tape deck that they were purchased for when they were new. I have kept them indoors and they are in great condition can you tell me what kind of value the mic's have. As far as condition goes the bases show some minor scratches but the mic bodies are in great condition with no scratches and full undamaged screens
@HollywoodSoundcom9 жыл бұрын
+richcali21 That's a curious choice of mics to match with a recorder unless the user was recording speech but it's cool that you found the whole kit!. I think that ebay 's is going to be your best barometer for market value of the mics when you decide to part with them. Thanks for looking at the video.
@richcali219 жыл бұрын
what did people use to record with back then if not the reel to reel decks? They were used for live music not speech. I have no intentions of selling they were my grandfathers and I have many of the tapes as well.
@HollywoodSoundcom8 жыл бұрын
+richcali21 Prior to tape, recordings were made direct to disk or onto wire. A long time ago I traded away an early cutter/player that I would show to people and sometimes I wish I still had it, but more people are fascinated to hear the fidelity of a wire recorder and I kept one of those. Those mics were quite an achievement when they came out and actually predate your recorder by at least 15 years and probably more. It's cool that you have kept them in the family and that they remain in great shape, as many I have seen have suffered mightily.
@richcali218 жыл бұрын
by disk you mean records right? but how did they record to wire?
@HollywoodSoundcom8 жыл бұрын
Yes, they were called transcriptions. Wire recording was done magnetically and tape came along after the war.
