Fantastic, what a find! Cpl Morgan was a trg sgt of mine in 86 at Chepstow, he still beat my BFT with his one leg. On marches on exercise he would take his false leg off and fill the stump with tea and pass it round. I could never forget him, such a great soh, kind wise nature and fantastic example of a human being for a wide eyed 16yo

Thank you for your comment. This film is simply about the return of the Canberra. It is not a documentary on the Falklands War where many units, land, sea and air were involved. This was a naval campaign, which, without the Royal Navy, would have been impossible. For more of my personal experience, which includes Goose Green and Mount Longdon see: kzbin.info/www/bejne/p3rWcnSsfNeaj8U

@RoderickMacdonald Жыл бұрын
You are quite right. In those days, that was what was expected for officers, much as it was with BBC announcers as well. I'm pleased to say that has changed since. Thank you for your astute observation.

In all the time I was in, I could honestly count on one hand how many came from a working class back ground, I and don't need all five figures to count them on either.

The General Belgrano did change course.
@RoderickMacdonald Жыл бұрын
Since submarines were invented warships have used speed and course changes to avoid being attacked by them. They also use active and passive sonar, sonobuoys, and hydrophones along with aircraft and helicopters. It would be more surprising if the General Belgrano had not changed course.

God Bless Margaret Thatcher from this Yank. We haven't seen the like of her since. Never forget she was actually pressured to give up the Falklands by knock-kneed bureaucrats in her own administration. This in spite of a 99.8% plebiscite in favor of British Sovereignty. Remember too that the Soviet Union fell WITHOUT A SHOT because of Ronald Regan and Margearet Thatcher. No thanks to the appeasers who shrieked that her staunch resistance to the "inevitable" rise of Global Communism would kill us all. Where is the contrition of those cowardly fools? One would die an old man waiting for those pusillanimous naysayers to admit the slightest error in their deeds.

Superb content, thank you so much for this.

This is a painful time for 255 British families. RIP J Smith 42 Cdo died from his wounds. It is the 08 July 2023. It was believed that Jerry died from mortar fire, however new evidence indicates that he was killed by a sniper. Two very different causes of death and the body I would have thought gave the cause. Missed, my sons has his buttons on his blues.

You must be very proud of him Will. I asked for the CETs as soon as we were stood to. I was in 26 Armoured Engineer Squadron in the early 1970s and carried out the original Combat Engineer Tractor (CET) field trials, in Germany,. Your Dad, and all the other armoured engineers from Bovington were magnificent, just as I expected. Your Dad was a star.
