Simply Beautiful Breakdown of Honkai Star Rail's Music Composition in a video, as a game dev, i truly appreciate your work here, opening the mind of others that the nitty gritty things that the game devs put into their games and i gotta say this channel is underrated. Keep up the good work, and hope to see more in the future.

I think most of Kingdom Hearts music has a fair/circus adjacent themes because of the Disney influence, some heartless like the boss from wonderland in KH1 is literally circus themed with the whole juggling schtick

*MAJOR SPOILERS FOR STORY OF NIER TIMELINE* I've done a lot of digging recently on Nier/Drakengard timelines and plotlines and wanted to add a note to the small bit of militaristic theme played during a later portion of the song that for some reason I totally didn't catch till now. Kaine's Grandmother was actually the Vice Captain of the 13th Crusade against the legion, which is the crusade that ended in the death of Red Eye. Red Eye was the main "person" organizing the legion (people who have been turned into monsters via White Chlorination Syndrome) and therefore greatly lessened the threat of the Legion. Kaine's mother was not the person who dealt the blow- the Captain who died of his injuries at the end of the raid was. Kaine's grandmother is technically her mother- as Kaine was somewhat of an "experiment". She was given the genes of her Grandmother and Grandfather (who also served in the military) as well as Legion DNA. She wasn't really viewed as an experiment though, her grandmother raised her as normal as possible. There is no canon reason, but it's heavily speculated she had Kaine made that way in order to be able to protect herself and others should another threat in the future arise. Kaine was raised very strictly, but was loved. (All this info btw is from a video by EruptionFang, but it is 6 hours long on the entirety of Nier/Drakengard lore). All of this info is not in the game itself, unfortunately a LOT of Nier and even Drakengard lore are from other forms of media such as Novellas, Manga series and CD Dramas that never serialized in the US. We did recently get some Hamlin Organization and Legion lore in a story told via Nier Reincarnation (Yuzuki Reborn Reject EX Story).

9:25 This is a very curious argument. Something about the original feels correct on a much deeper level. Your suggestions don't seem to work when you think with your heart or soul and not your brain. Strangely enough. 9:45 This is is nice yes, but it does not "feel" right for the story. This song is an extreme emotional roller coaster. This character is quite confused, and disharmonious. So it makes sense for the song to be less logical, and more emotional. If that makes any sense. Out of all of the music I heard, this song is on the top of my list for video game music. Something about it feels so powerful. I resonate so strongly with this song it's almost as if it were meant for me.

Thank you for making this video. Celeste is near and dear to my heart (I might be echoing this from my last comment, but I feel it bares repeating.) Quite and Falling and In The Mirror are such great songs for Chapter 5 that brings the anxiety and stress to the forefront. It is very uncomfortable to listen to as it is looking in the mirror and Lena really captured. I can see why Quite and Falling is more popular because of it. At least In The Mirror can make for some interesting Halloween music (?). I hope you continue to make more videos on Celeste in the future to talk about. Stay cool and have yourself a good one.

The Organization = Clown idea isnt that farfetched seeing how some nobody enemy types, most notably dusks, invoke contortionists, what with the way their bodies bend around and their pointed feet being almost like that of a jester or dancer's attire. I think it's a fun comparison to make, even if it is primarily reflected in their music!

I've seen many people trying to mix NieR OST and sadly failing as these tracks are so good by them self, that it's quite hard to not take away their individual charm but you good sir are creating greatness. Ever since Fleeting Shadows I am genuinely hoping for another mashup as you understand the song and make them feel more like a duette instead of just putting two tracks into one
@kid-ronin4 күн бұрын
I understand where youre coming from with the clown argument, however i feel like its supposed to invoke chaos like a circus rather than the clowns themselves. The organization members cannot feel emotion but jump at the chance to sow chaos in anything they can, primarily with sora but its also seen in them just fucking around with some of the Disney characters. I feel like that chaos is something they find joy in (or the closest thing to joy), to them its just stupid fun. As you state in your video, there's constant in-fighting, alliances and insubordination within the organization, and people who want order wouldnt act this way, they themselves, even when among themselves, act in chaos.

If she truly was aware Roxas was next on the list, then I'm sorry Xion. I fear in my fic, there is truly only one way to keep you fully free. Magic doesn't justify half of what happened during that year. Not Riku. Not DiZ. Not Xemnas. You are deluded children. I must free you.

I am so glad you never cut out that clown portion of the video, because that vibe was something I'd always subconsciously felt from the Organization! Even if it's an unintended coincidence, the feelings that come with the connection are art doing its damn job, and hearing you question it was tantalizing! Your analysis afterward was totally spot on. I'd like to add that the members' varied appearances and fighting styles contributes to the idea that they're a diverse circus act, performing in their own impressionable ways. They're framed as a sort of single unit underneath the cloaks, but that contrasts with their unabashed personalities when it's showtime. The 13th Struggle hammers this in by feeling like madness on a tightrope.

@17:10 As someone who played the DS version when I was 16, I will defend playing the game will always be better than the cutscene compilation of the remix. After going through Roxas' daily routine, after pushing for each cutscene of him and his friends to go and hangout at the clock tower, it just made it hit that much harder when it all ended in tragedy.

I mean, I understood the concept of leitmotifs and their use to guide and reinforce the story telling, but man, having them laid out in the bare like you did in this video made me notice them even harder than before. It's crazy what a skilled team under competent lead can achieve with just music.

You know, I was listening to this track again today and I experienced another thought. I love the part that starts from 11:58, and I really like your "what goes up must come down". I'll be honest, I don't remember when in the fontaine archon quests this track plays, but whenever I listen to that first descent at 12:07 I always feel a bit of anguish, and it's almost as if I felt the pressure of the water level rising pressing on my chest. Just like fontainians, people can't escape water, and that part specifically gives me strong imagery of being stuck in a room that's slowly filling up. I can still breathe because my head is above water, but for how long is that going to be true? In that situation you know what's to come next, the prophecy is unavoidable and drowning is imminent. It's like looking at your last hope and then realizing that it won't help you and you're feeling your stomach sinking for just that moment. I might be a bit dramatic but I like when music makes me slightly uncomfy like this! What's funny is that I feel it that strongly only for that first descent, probably because of how big of a change in direction that is. The following part tells me "this situation is hopeless and unavoidable" but to me it's less tangible. I just really like the feeling this recapitulation invokes in me and thought it was cool to share!
@JonathanBarouch7 күн бұрын
Very cool, yes! Thank you. I agree, it's beautiful. While it never plays exactly like this in the game, I believe it plays in most or all of the tracks with "theme 3" in them, which all play towards the very end of the story
