@@NihadFly Yes, that approach pattern was definitely not the norm, but if there's no traffic.... why not? Different approaches with different spots to land on make it easier to transition to new fields in the future, IMO.

One thing I disliked about Lookout was if you're not there consistently, all your going to do is sled runs. In my 15 years there I only had a few memorable flights. It was either dead calm or howling winds . This was back in the 1990s early 2000. Long before the new radial ramp. So I quit, now that I'm retired and living in Mexico, there's Valle de Bravo. All new hanglider and equipment. And a solid prospect of 75 or 80 hours airtime during the season. I love Lookout but Valle has it beat by miles.
@NihadFly3 ай бұрын
@@KeithMilton-rl1mg I think you are right about sled runs, so many of them and no much staying in the air. But there are other things that I need to work on: landings at target, getting more comfortable flying within traffic, etc.

Fun flight! Some advice from a H4 (thousands of foot launch flights): 1. Keep running until you're in the air. Do not hop up into the glider before it lifts you. The end of your launch ramp does not look fun to fall into! 2.Pick a safer approach path for landing. I got the feeling you were wandering around until you were close enough to think about landing. Set up successive points in your mind starting from where you want to come to a stop on the ground all the way back up to where you are in the sky and fly through those points. 3. Keep your speed up throughout your landing. You were dropping fast downwind (next to the trees) due to insufficient airspeed and were too low and slow for my comfort when you turned 180 upwind though you handled it well. (My instructor was constantly telling me to speed up. I have a hard time watching my early flight videos. I was too comfortable flying low and slow). 4. Dive a little throughout final to make sure you have good airspeed control and round out and coast until you are a second beyond trim speed and then flare. You floated down and then flared. 5. Feel great about your successful flight! You're doing extremely well for your 25th flight. The things I'm telling you above will come naturally as you work on them over many flights. :)

Great start , wind and landing condition , supervised and documented , nice to see hang gliding still alive . I remember my first flight 1975 , all alone up on a similar mountain in Switzerland with my just received new Bill Bennet Glider , no idea how and where to land did I start over hills , power lines and Villages in to a unbelievable love affaire . I quit hang gliding 2007 :(

I know they teach using different methods but I can't help pointing out two things. - hanging lower when fully prone with your hands on the control bar gives you much more control. -letting your arms go loose even when in the upright position is something you should do to help relax yourself. Reminds yourself that the glider trims itself. Your arms seemed very stiff which is understandable but prevents you from getting any input from the glider. Relax your arms and learn to let the glider fly more independently.
@NihadFly10 ай бұрын
I like your second remark about flying more relaxed and have glider flies more independently. I think this flight was in the midday and was quite gusty for my pay grade. I agree that I should let glider lead the way but this is still new to me and looking forward to fly it next time with this technique in mind. Thanks for your tips it helps a lot.

I'm envious. lol My first soaring flight in Ridge Lift wasn't planned. I was going to do a sled run but launched and the conditions improved. I spent 1.5 hrs soaring with a dozen hang gliders and 4 sailplanes in Dansville New York. The things you will learn on your first soaring flight will stay with you for the rest of your life. It did with me. lol
