Thank you for the video. I have been fighting where the cable enters the tube. Your video was the ticket...

Thanks for the video, man! Been trying to fix up the clutch on my bug too haha
@thecuss68173 ай бұрын
I like the piece of wood to keep the clutch pedal from falling rearward and having the cable eye fall off the hook. I've used my left shoulder or a brick to keep that up until connecting at the rear. Some like a bread tie or cable tie to hold the eye onto the hook during installation.

Thanks! A bread tie or zip tie would’ve been too simple, I gotta complicate it 😄 Good to know though, I’ll remember that for next time 🤙🏻

Great Video! Off topic, but No clamps on the Fuel Filter? What size is the rubber hose and steel tube?
@zacthefix4 ай бұрын
This is just the standard metal fuel line that is part of the bug from the factory. I’ve seen guys commenting on how you don’t need clamps with original braided fuel line and, sure enough, they don’t use clamps when you look in the Bentley manuals. The clamps tend to mushroom out the end of the hose and cause it to crack when they’re tightened down. I’ve started to cautiously adopt the no-clamp method and it’s been working great! Haven’t had a single issue.

How do you prevent a rust stain on your concrete driveway after the first rainfall? Magnet to pickup the iron filings?
@zacthefix5 ай бұрын
I honestly never considered that! I swept everything up and it’s rained since then… maybe I got lucky! Wish I could say the same about the oil spots 😄

I assume it was a drum from a different year? Or were the axles / trans changed at some point? Nice MacGyver work!
@zacthefix5 ай бұрын
After the hullabaloo trying to figure it out myself… I believe there was one later drum - but on original backing plates. That drum worked (maybe it had been modified in the past, idk). The drum that started this mess was original and it fit, but the splines were all messed up from the axle but being loose.

If it works it works. Send it. If you need access to a lathe in the future let me know.

Thanks! Hopefully I’m not cutting down drums on a regular basis. I do have a lot of VWs though… 🤷🏻♂️

Hey Zac, thanks for this vid, very informative and detailed. Great idea using the talc powder to help ease things along. I'll be referencing this again when I get to installing pop outs on my 62' splitty. Cheers!
