I still see the vision of my neighbors 1969 mercury cougar eliminator in my head, back around 1983. I remember thinking, those got cool lines. Finally found a 69 for myself in 2024.

In 1965, the day after Labor Day, my sister, who was driving, and I were on the way to school when something happened to the 1962 Ford Falcon station wagon we were in. We hit a telephone pole dead center. My sister crushed her nose on the steering wheel and I hit the dash board with my neck and then went into the windshield. There were seat belts I think, but at the time, no one used them. I spent 28 days in Piedmont Hospital in Atlanta because my larynx was damaged and my forehead was almost peeled off. I had a tube in my throat to help me breath and after I was released, I had two surgeries to repair the scars on both my forehead and my throat. I was 14 when this happened. The Falcon, with it's all steel interior, wasn't a very safe car to drive. When I was 17 I bought my first car and it was a 1964 Ford Galaxy XL Convertible. Five years later, I bought a 1968 Torino GT with the 390. I still drive a Ford today. I guess it's just in my blood.

That’s an horrific story. Cars have come a long way since then thankfully. Most people now wear seatbelts and I personally can attest that they can save lives as I have the dashcam video on the channel. I’m glad to hear you are still a Ford fan.

My buddy bought one in 70 after he got a raise at work. Candy apple red. I bought a 71 four door Comet when I re-enlisted. Traded it in 75 for an AMC Pacer. 😮 Courted my wife in the car. 😊 Brought our first born home in it.

I had lots of early mustangs and cougars. They were all fantastic cars,fun to drive , easy to work on and beautiful to look at. The only issue was rust, and previous owners abusing or altering them. I got so many comments and people asking what it was etc. I restored three cougars and four mustangs plus a lot of work on other people's cars. Good times. Thanks for the video I enjoyed it. Love that green 70' cougar.

How did it compare to Jeeps?
@TonysFordsandMustangs10 сағат бұрын
It depends. The Jeeps were not the great either but I haven't looked into those vehicles to deeply. I know that both had a higher center of gravity than the Suzuki Samurai and that one was sent back to Japan because of this issue.
@TimT-ey3hp10 сағат бұрын
@TonysFordsandMustangs would stiffer shocks help?
@TonysFordsandMustangs4 минут бұрын
@ Fords engineers recommended widening the wheelbase by 3 to 4 inches. There are several comments of owners of Bronco II’s n this video. I would look to them to find the answers on lowering the center of gravity. I can tell you a 4x2 is more prone to roll over and I would think that is suspension related.

I rented a Hertz GT-H in 2007. Those had a WAY better looking hood than the Shelby GT, although I think that was the only difference. I knocked a muffler loose going out of a driveway. That's TOO low. I had to scramble to get it fixed before I returned it. OOPS.
@TonysFordsandMustangs11 сағат бұрын
That sounds like a fun (and slightly stressful) rental experience! I am thinking there will be a Rental Racer video including all the Hertz car at some point down the road. That should be an interesting video to throw together.

FYI: Actress Estelle Getty from The Golden girls didn't make it big in life until she was in her 60s. When the show became an instant hit she was driving a small little Toyota. In 1987 it was a well-known fact she could have bought whatever she wanted. She chose a two-door Ford Tempo new. There are photographs out there where she was waiting on "set", she was right by her automobile setting in a chair waiting for her next line. She was very thrifty and conservative. Frugal. She was asked about the the Tempo? And she said it fits my needs. At the time in put lots of American needs. It wasn't the top of the line but it was a nice automobile." Ford puts it on wheels!"

I had a ‘71 comet with the 302-2V that i bought from my future wife’s uncle for $75! I had more fun with this car than my ‘67 442! the car only weighed 2200 lbs if I recall correctly. It held its own against many a muscle car of that era. Every person that saw the car wanted to buy the non-functional hood scoop off it! The rear quarter panels and trunk were completely rusted out but the car was mechanically flawless! Drove the car until it burned up parked outside my parent’s garage when it burned down! The engine ended up in a ‘54 Ford pickup!

VERY ENJOYABLE VIDEO ! Pretty accurate history. Also the only year for Challenger R/T Convertibles was 1970. Challenger Convertibles were manufactured in both 1970 & 1971, but 70 was the only year for the R/T Convertible.

I first noticed the new Granada in 1982, and while I thought it was a fresh, attractive take on the first generations, I had already discovered the General Motors A Body cars (Chevrolet Celebrity, Pontiac 6000, Buick Century) which were new that year. Compared to those, the new Granada/Cougar was somewhat underwhelming in appearance to me.

When I met Suzie, she had an ‘89 Probe GT, and I had my ‘90 GT. I paid my Mustang off with my pay from Desert Storm & Somalia. Dad drove my car while I was overseas. He worked at Ford, so the window sticker came with his name on it, as it was special ordered; 3.08 gear, leather, block heater, etc. Didn’t know you could get an equalizer for the stereo, or it would have been there. $14,300 A Plan.

The Shelby GT was ACTUALLY built by Shelby American. I have the white one, still all stock with 27,000 miles. I bought it new in Feb of 2008. I love it. It always gets noticed when I drive it. IMO, it's the best looking Mustang since the original, especially with the lowered suspension. It's souped up just a little, and that's enough for me, as if I would actually drive it fast anyway. (The Goodrich tires suck, but I put on Firestone Indy 500's and they look and hook up great!)

It sounds like it's the right time for Mustang enthusiasts/collectors to get one before the average joe is priced out of the market. You related how the Fox body cars are currently worth more, which reminded me of my Aussie Ford dealer sales guy who said (referring to Aussie cars) that you never know what car will be popular/valuable. Cars, you'd expect to rise in value, don't, whilst those you don't expect to do much do. Same for you in America, too, it seems. Cheers from Christchurch NZ.

I’ve seen very few of these cars in person. The S197 platform still holds a special place for me despite currently owning a s550. They’re still the pinnacle of modern mustangs for me, since they offered these, the boss 302, the GT to Shelby American to be converted to a GT350, the Iacocca edition and of course the 13-14 GT500s (+super snakes) It just simply wasn’t the same after Shelby passed.
