That's super cool that your dad really got into the series and remembers it decently well. I know my dad and mom got into too, but don't remember jack! 😆My dad just remembers the green cars as he puts it (Racing Drones) being his favorite due to the color being his favorite.

This movie SUCKED!!!!! Period!!! As a kid who grew up watching Speed Racer, what I grew up seeing and absorbing was what I expected in this live action version of the story. And that WAS NOT delivered!!!

Fun talk! I remember being confused by Clarabelle's and Horace's inclusion too. Because they actually were still prominently featured in the Dutch Donald Duck comics at the time!

50:40ish... yeah, the prequels messed with nothing pre-established... except for Leia remembering her real mother, and the imperial troopers now having identical Maori accents, and Aniken having known Owen and Beru years before Star Wars, or the fact that Aniken was actually called Skywalker even though that obviously would not have been Luke's actual birth name, and that rebel pilot who said he used to fly with Aniken way back even though he is just a random non-clone human...
@SandshrewGarfield
@SandshrewGarfield 6 күн бұрын
Not to mention that Aniken built C3PO for no damn reason and that Chewbacca was one of the last people to see Yoda before he went into hiding and he never bothers to mention it all those years later...

I enjoyed the video but for the record the native resolutions of VHS, LaserDisc, and DVD are 240i, 425i and 480i respectively (early DVD players did not upscale). I like that you pointed out that the 2005 DVDs of the SW Trilogy theatrical versions were ripped from LaserDisc (and therefore not anamorphic) 'cause that angered a lot of fans.

I prefer to buy Bluray for quality and longevity reasons. But those early DVDs are still my favorite to watch. Regardless of format, I have to have a physical copy!

Awesome discussion. I really loved watching the three Indiana Jones films on VHS as a kid. I remember “Last Crusade” had a super cool Pepsi commercial before the movie and I miss it when I stream the movie now

Oh man, that Godzilla VHS cover brought back memories. I replayed Vs. King Ghidorah so many times it broke on me hahaha. Now the only thing I have is that giant Showa DVD set by mediablasters from the mid 2000s and it still looks nifty.

I had 3 dune ratz cars and a wave rippers. I really wanted that El Camino, f150 and Alecs surfboard truck. I had the Krazy 8s, the truck that raced with the Ford on the dinos back, and another two I can't remember

The wii video game of Speed Racer is among the best movie tie-in video game ever made. For a video game based on a movie its actually quite good for a racing game. The really weird thing is that despite always going in a straight line since all races are a single track going forward, turning and looping, the game is still able to be quite challenging reminescent of F-Zero and Extreme-G

This was my absolute favorite movie growing up, and it still is. I remember watching it when it came out in theaters and then getting the DVD as soon as possible just because I was so infatuated with it. I recently rewatched it over a decade later and was actually able to understand the story a lot better and understand the dialogue and acting a lot better, and I ended up finding aspects of it that I literally was not mentally capable of appreciating because I was literally 7 years old when the movie came out. I absolutely love this movie

My dad is a car guy through and through. He grew up playing with Hotwheels (he still has his favorite car, a 1971 Jet Threat) and spent his entire professional life in the automotive industry. I confess I'm a little hazy on the details since this was in my early childhood, but he worked with the son of Mike Alexander (at least I'm 99% sure, might have been Larry) who one of the minds behind the original Dodge Deora concept car. He came to our house once for dinner and gave us one of the commemorative 35 year anniversary sets with a Deora and Deora II. It was no coincidence that I was big into Hotwheels at the time (and honestly that never really stopped), but I'm not even sure I could comprehend just how cool that was. I'm not sure if Deora II was always my favorite car, but it certainly was after that. In any event, Hotwheels and these movies were a big part of my childhood and truly captured my imagination. To this day, I'll always pick up a Deora II if I see one on the pegs, and I'll definitely keep an eye out this month for the Teku one. Thanks for the fun retrospective.
