Doing this exactly as shown on a TS-251D seems to work as the container starts, but nothing ever appears in the console so no auth link is available. I managed to get round it using portainer and adding the TS_AUTH_KEY as an environmental variable, but container station doesn't seem to allow that, so yet another reason to use Portainer instead it seems...
@thestorageguy59602 жыл бұрын
Hello, could you try creating the container again. Without auth link too it can be done by creating an environmental variable. When you create the container, you can create an env variable by the name of TS_AUTH_KEY, and putting the value that you . You can get your aut key by logging into tailscale. I will try to update the video showing that shows this optional step too.

ty so much brotha! could you explain ELI5 if there is a way to run tailscale on qnap so that it doesnt reset after a restart, as u mentioned in the end of the video it now does
@thestorageguy59602 жыл бұрын
Hello. For the Ephemeral mode, you have to create an environmental variable with the name of TS_AUTH_KEY . 1. Login to tailscale. go to settings -> personal settings - keys -> auth key. Generate a key here and put the value of this key in the environment vaiable. 2. While creating the container you can go to advanced settings -> Environment. here put the name of the key as TS_AUTH_KEY and value as the value that you got from step 1. Now when you run your container, it won't need authentication.

First off, thanks for this video. Helped me understanding container station and sonarr in one go, so i appareciate it. Some constructive criticsm: You missed talking about the /config folder. It is a pretty important step. Kind of glossed over it. For new folks who may not be familiar with sonarr you should explain what the /config folder is for, and maybe some best practices on where to mount to. (e.g. mounting to a shared folder may not be best practice) Additionally, the comment about Host vs Container IP, while it may be good out of the box, not pasting anything in there, a little more instruction and examples of the behaviour of host vs container port would take this from being a good video to a great one! Once again, appreciate your work :)

How you edit a container once its created to add more folders thanks
@kajain993 жыл бұрын
There is no option to add a folder once the container has been created, either from GUI or from command line. From GUI, its easier to create a new container and apply the settings of old container manually. From Command line ( if you have root SSH access), you can first commit your running container ( create a new image using your running container settings) and then run the new image with " docker run -t=newimagenane -d -v /hostdirector:/dockerdirectory. Honestly, its easier to re-create a container.

To get nzbget to work i forwarded port 6789 in the network settings, on the shared files tab add config and download file. After that I was able to manually type the host address with the forwarded port at the top of the screen and get into nzb get. I never got the address link to appear like sonnar does. In nzbget I set the download path to the one i specified when i was setting nzbget up. Then I went back to Sonarr @2:07 in the video you can see a tab called remote path mappings. Add the nzbget download path without that my files would not be added to the media library

@@ChristopheMannes For what it is worth, I figured out it has to be the same PATH to the shared folder... not just the same folder. Not sure if that makes sense. Can't change the password. I've stopped the container then used Qtext to edit, changed the values and saved. When I restart Transmission, it has teh opriginal passwords and so does the JSON file. I've reopened the JSON before restarting Transmission to verify that I'd actually saved them and I have but no luck. How do I change authentication, userid and passwrods?

Hello. what you are doing shoudl work. Stop the container, use Qtext to edit the settings.json file to change the "rpc-username":, "rpc-password": fields and make sure that "rpc-authentication-required": true. Remember, when you put your password in plaint text, and then restart it will change the password to a hash so you won't see the clear text. It beats me why it doesn't work. I checked on mine exactly the way you are doing and it worked.

Hi, you can try this: remove the container, go to images and create a container again for transmission. In advanced settings go to environment and add USER in "Name" and then your username in "Value", and the same with PASS and your password. Remember to configure port forwarding in "Network" and Shared folders for /config /downloads and /watch. go to "Create" and you are done, once you open your URL it should ask for login credentials.

Hi, do you have a solution how to run all my torrent downloads behind VPN (e.g. Private Internet Access)?
@kajain994 жыл бұрын
The easiest way to do it would be to install Qnaps QVPN package - it gives you a GUI interface to setup your VPN client. Use it to connect to your VPN server, and all the traffic from QNAP ( including traffic from your containers and VMs) start to go through the VPN Server. If you want only the Container traffic to go through the VPN, you would have to look at a docker image like transmission + openvpn image. I have been asked ealier to do a tutorial on that but there is a tutorial that already exists by Ribin.

Glad that you liked it. Download folder can be set outside the container volume. For that you have to do 2 things. 1. Under Advanced Settings > Shared Folders> Volume from host , mount a Qnap Folder to a mount point in Container. Let's say you take /movies in the first field and mount it to mydownloadfolder ( Look at 2:50 in the video ) 2. Worked well - but how do I open ports in this kind of setup. This installation uses port 51413 on transmission, but it is being reported within the software as 'closed'?
@kajain995 жыл бұрын
Hello. The port will have to be opened in your Router. The 51413 is the internal port of the Container. This is mapped to another port - that's the port you have to open. Look at the Settings > Advanced Settings > Network and you will see that there is a port lablled as HOST , which is mapped to a Container port. This HOST port is to be opened on your router.

When I follow your instructions to change settings.json then restart the container, it doesn't assign me an IP and I cannot access the transmission web interface
@Variensus4 жыл бұрын
I had the same problem, multiple restarts never gave me a URL link to connect to. Stop the container, and select the Overview and press the start button under actions. Then when you select the transmission container it will have the URL link on screen. If that doesn't work, you can set the network option from HOST to Bridge and give it a static IP on your network, that should connect even if there is no link on the container page.
@kajain993 жыл бұрын
Hello, sometimes it doesnot show you the quick link to the IP and URL. But if you click on settings > advanced settings > network, you will see the ports from host which is forwarded. So for exampleif you see the host port 32274 being forwarded to container 9091, then you can access your transmission server with qnap.ip.address:32274
