Haha. It's fun to reverse engineer things sometimes. I've done this the other way around also - taking concepts from code/DSP block diagrams and implementing them through patch programming. Patched up a crude all pass filter using utilities recently that made for a gnarly home cooked phaser, for instance.

Clever, tremendous and, as usual, great sounding patch! It's almost a piece. Excited to try it on a Nord Modular in the hope of at least a small bit of that beauty of yours. Do I get it right, that you use a fedback OscA as a modulator for a pan CV?
@BenjaminCareyАй бұрын
@@zerobjecthey thanks. Panning is actually from a smooth out of the 267e random source for the jitters, and for the noise panning it's a split of the envelopes controlling amplitude of the synced source... nord Modular sounds fun ! I like analogue FM in feedback - but this is the first time I've done it with sync as well
@zerobjectАй бұрын
@@BenjaminCarey Totally missed out on this vco being analogue. Makes sense. Luckily I own a 258j in my analog system, so might reach for this one instead. I also prefer analog for all sorts of feedback no doubt. Again, thank you for another brilliant patch idea and a great video. Such patches justify the use of a 200e like nothing else.

Nice sound but damn this micro-touch knob stuff that "doesn't make any change to the sound but I'm doing 'something'" culture is aggravating. Crank the knob a bit, show us what it really does. Then fine tune it. Don't just touch the toilet paper to your ass and pretend it's clean.

This is so great. The only thing I'd wish for is that the camera was higher up and angled down more because it's really hard to see what you're doing and the farther modules are out of focus.

Always learning from all these great patches of yours. What's controlling the VCO's pitch here?
@BenjaminCarey2 ай бұрын
Hey thanks :-) The ES-VCO is the source of everything, with its frequency controlled from the top row of the sequencer programmers, driven by the end out of a looping slope. I'm using some slewed random voltage from the SSG to change the waveshape. But then there's processing of this. The first processed source is the VCO mixed with a fed back resEQ/wave multiplier combo, put through a VCA... the second I'm high pass filtering, with some modulation from somewhere, with an inversed envelope into another VCA. The final one is a transient generator, synced to the main VCO, whose rise/fall are controlled from the same mod source controlling the waveshape to get those harmonics, then going through a phasor with its frequency modulated from the RVG, and then enveloped as well with another transient generator. So all sources coming from this one VCO more or less, whose pitch is a simple 8 step sequence.

@@frankschneider7190 interesting perspective. This was the end of 2 x 1hr hour live classes for my students simply introducing this synth to students. It's unedited - done live for my class and uploaded for their reference - they're not meant to be a completely comprehensive overview. See other youtubers for this. You're welcome to check the other videos in the series, where I go through many other parts of the synth. The Granular section was short and rather rushed as I was finishing up the class.
