It's been a while since I did this video, but it feels more like endless rebuilding rather than a landing zone 😅 I'm enjoying the process though, and and trying to build something I can be proud of, so I definitely resonate with that Hope you are keeping well now yourself ❤

It's more an artistic interpretation of where I believe Carey has found himself. At base level, it's what resonated in me when I tried to conceptualise his thinking through his movies and interviews

I dig this and try to work this out by creating ambient music via high tech gadgets and synthesizers. Deep inside I feel like a neo-luddite but I venture to express this with technology. The tension created by this absurd prospect keeps me energized.

Can I play devil's advocate? We've also developed a concept of virtues and chivalry. Or at least Ken Wilber's integral theory supports the idea of a development of human's through time. Or you can think time and progress is very strictly circular. Which in that case there is no such thing as progress. Mary Harrington speaks well on this. All to say, how long do you think it'll be before we; "sense to be off the trail - leading to the Abyss and may be - STOP treading on..." ??

I can't say I know where I picked it up, but valor and honour have been coming up lately. Holding them separate from moral judgements but holding them none-the-less might be constitutional for the legacy we leave behind. I like your turn to a trinity. Our brain works differently the moment there's a third anywhere, that's part of what my workshops make use of (try having a private argument in front of someone - obviously they can make it worse, but for the people trying to resolve, a third person gives "an out" without having to resolve, and that can be an ultimate kindness. Can always come back to it later). All to say I hope you are meetig your day well, and there's certainly a lot of conversation needing to happen, so apologies for overflowing. Thank you. John Vervaeke has helped me digest that beyond language quality. He has 4 Ps Propositional (language), Procedural (you can't talk your way to riding a bike), Perspectival (flash memory/imagination), participatory (our sense of self when in relation in the world). I'm curious where you think we should limit our pursuit of the good, the true, and the beautiful to? I do believe comedy functions to open us up when done well, but there are many avenues to get us unstuck when pursuing our north star. What do you suggest we hold highest? (putting aside the precise figure of reward)

I think it's a constant course correction between self and spirit. Yin-yang has been a powerful symbol to dig me out of the Safety of just one. I also have a Jekyll and Hyde pipe that I meditate with. And of course I've the weekly practices of dialogos. So the answer is just like fighting. It's best to find a martial art to acquaint yourself with violence, and then you're best able to navigate the spectrum of violence down to the small relational or non-verbal. My bet is that the void that we've to sit back into to keep course correcting between paradoxes is the same. So find a void/paradox relating practice ❤️ And if there's any you already have familiarity with, I'd love to hear what's helping, because I don't know the big story that will help us see this struggle in each other easier 🙏

I haven't dug into the stories behind any of them, still learning to identify the constellations, but if you know any parables from those stories I always love hearing new ones :)

That used to really bum me out when I was a kid And I refused to believe it later on in college I was studying about certain Inuit beliefs and the ones that say the stars are actually portals for our lost loved ones on the other side who went really lost it all but just waiting to be reunited with us and that's how they looking at us and watch.us from afar. No I realizing modern science that sounds even more preposterous than burnt out already lights that far away but I can understand how one would get some comfort from it as primitive and simplicity filled as it sounds I prefer believing that's possible I've lived almost so I don't want to say how long I've lived I feel ancient right now hahaha My birthday is coming up this month and I feel like I'm already wearing my future corpse today. My oldest brother when he was alive he used to tease me about that about some of the excess of interesting events happening to or around me He would always ask me if there was a writer's strike or did they just have something against me with the script lol yep yep Good channel I subbed.

Also note that we Generation X have the practical blueprints. We have for detail practical solutions for each of the worlds problems. We generation, X are also very much ready to step up in the leadership positions, and the top tier of the world. We Generation X have been developing our plans, developing a leader ship, and prepared to be the next great kings of society, all of our lives. When we finally are given positions of power, we will be able to implement all of our solutions.

@@markfennell1167 Well there's definitely something to be said about gen x and the seats of power. And I can agree that gen x has detailed out solutions for each of the worlds problems, although I hesitate with just how many problems there are now. But there isn't a grand narrative to unite a people. And without a grand narrative to hold it all together, it becomes the government's job to hold people within a legislative union and that's a grand danger. So the heavy lifting in the details of the solutions might belong to gen x, but the heavy lifting of coordinating and sharing a common union that moves through generations might be the millenial's cross. What do you think? I do see the public theologians emerging from gen x, but they don't make a generation, they inspire the next.

The workshops I do each week definitely scratch this itch for me (they follow john Vervaeke's work). So I definitely agree that it's really nice to meet people through these spaces. I do worry that such an app would cause us all to niche down. But I understand the frustration of having knowledge or a reflection that is difficult to share to people outside a specific youtube ecosystem (and we're finally realizing that online comments don't fully address that need). Just wait until you can make a quality short movie with AI next year and you'll call people into your tribe no bother 😂😅

So I actually just came across John’s work last week. I’m into it. If you have any videos of his that you recommend that would be brilliant. I’m trying to get into his meaning crisis series at the moment. But it’s way too much it’s like 55 hours LOL. My areas of interest are aesthetics and virtue ethics. I’ve really narrowed my focus into the nature of beauty, art, and self expression. Aka the creative / material expression of all these ideas we hold so dearly

I'd hesitate in blaming gen z. Not because the symptoms you mention aren't there, but I just don't think the conversations happen anymore about social etiquette, and when they do happen it's delivered through shame which makes the rebel rebel. Hldo you think a turn can happen where we actually love the next generation enough to offer them wisdom that they don't know they need, in a way that is genuinely trying to reach them (rather than shaming them for a superiority boost), and builds a relationship where we revive the archetype of a sage elder. And this brings us full circle to the dialectic into dialogos workshops 😄 it will be the salve to all our wounds 😄
