How does this portal differ from the environmental hotline? They also simply refer the complaint to the relevant department but then one never hears if something is done or sees a change. I agree with the comment that some provinces simply do not know what to do when a compliance order is issued and the miscreant ignores it. It would be good to know if provinces are prosecuting or fining for environmental crimes.

Thanks for the video. I am a mine closure consultant, dealing with this managing systems and figures, I can agree with the logic of the video. Great explanation. SA didn't have legislation on rehabilitation in the past hence the +/-6000 old mines unrehabilitated. All current and new operations have to comply to the legislation and regulations set out for mine closure and rehab.

These multi national corporations privatize the profits to the top and socialize the Damage & toxic waste & clean up directly back onto the backs of those who can least afford it . They hit & run ..

I know of one such mine that is busy destroying old fossilized bones that date back a few million years ago, and I can prove it with samples and photos. Will they be closed down if exposed? No, they will just use money as a resource to silence me.
