I have to agree with you on everything. Especially as a person that doesn’t know a single thing about Arthurian legend, I can verify that there is actually zero plot beside “my brother is a werewolf and I’m in a version of the upside down trying to find this ring but also I’m not looking for it anymore.” It felt like this book played on a introverts worst nightmares. Things just kept happening that didn’t matter at all there wasn’t a moment were they reflected and built character. If we were suppose to experience a “found family” plot line I sorely missed it somewhere.

I gotta say this was such an underwhelming and sad box, and for that price?! :o I totally get your disappointment :/ <3 There was like.. the idea of alot of the items seems great, but they were so.. boring kinda and bad quality and not generous either? :o <3
@jessica_inprogress5 ай бұрын
Yeah, it really did feel like there was some thought put into each item, but they weren't properly executed or enough to justify it being an item.

Idk, for the price it all seems meh. Also, PotO should have been an extra book, not the main book. Maybe it's just me, but no matter how fancy you make it, a public-domain book just shouldn't be the only book for the price. Maybe I'm nit-picking,
@jessica_inprogress5 ай бұрын
I didn't even think about it being in the public domain! you are so right with that. Also it being a continuation of a previous series they ran where the paperback was an item in the main box subscription... it really should have been something extra and not the main thing.

I think all the items were nice ideas, but didn't come out well. Example: the rings. I like the idea of getting rings, but those were pretty awful. Definitely disappointing.

I agree, it seemed very shortsighted or rushed.

The apron is maybe meant to be a gardening apron? Maybe that's why it’s that plastic-y material?
@jessica_inprogress6 ай бұрын
Possibly. It didn't feel thick enough to last while gardening, but I'll try it out there. Thanks!

I liked the rings, but otherwise yeah not the most exciting. I was subscribed to Owlcreate in 2018-2019 and liked their boxes, but this feels a bit disappointing.

It is a bit disappointing. I'm hoping they learn with this box and if they do it again or another one like it.
@bpkdhillon6 ай бұрын
Tbh knowing it didn’t sell out and also watching the spoiler videos that OwlCrate posted, I knew this wasn’t for me… it’s too expensive for what you get. It should have been priced at $39.99 given how expensive shipping is…
@jessica_inprogress6 ай бұрын
Yeah, it really was too expensive for what was in there. I was hesitant from the spoilers, but I was hoping for the big item to justify the price.

Don't think that it is worth the price. There should have been a stand for the cards.

it really wasn't. I love the idea about a stand for the cards! especially as it would likely be more versatile for other art prints as well!

Don’t get me wrong, I love OwlCrate. But Honestly after getting their Xmas advent calendar (which was much better than this but still underwhelming when you figure in the cost) I 100% knew this was gonna be a skip and I am soooooo glad I went with my gut. This was bad….. really bad. And also, sort of wierd that the items were all pastel cozy romances but the book was PotO? And while I am a huge fan of Howls Moving Castle…. two items and neither of them impressive. Nothing was impressive. I’m sorry for everyone who wasted money on this and I hope people email OC about their disappointment

I love Cindy! I also like RF Kuang. Babel is another book that most people didn't like because it addressed real issues. The Girl That Fell Beneath The Sea is on my shelves but I haven't read it. Ive stepped away from fantasy and romance unless I need a light read.✨️ I'm bored with hot girls, hot guys and repetitive storylines. I've been enjoying your videos!

Ugh! Yeah.. nope!! I dropped their asses months ago! There's something wrong with this company! Why aren't more ppl curious as to why they can't get their shit together? What's really mind numbing is how they continue to gain new book box subscribers. Email after email filled with excuse after pitiful excuse. The only thing I want from them is the "limited edition" book series that I ordered way back in March or April 2023 or my $200!! Happy New Year btw🎉
@jessica_inprogress8 ай бұрын
I know! I've been keeping tabs on them and I cannot believe that they are still 5 months behind on shipping out things and yet still expanding and creating a-whole-nother box! it is absolutely insane! and seeing their book picks also makes me glad that I immediately canceled.

Wow, owlcrate seems to have stepped up their game with the adult boxes. I remember their first box had no foiling on the hardback and no endpaper illustrations. Now I’m wondering if I should sign up for it instead of Fairyloot, since Fairyloot doesn’t seem to get author signatures anymore 😢 only thing is I wish they did more details on the sprayed edges like Illumicrate and the The Broken Binding do. Ugh, I’m addicted to these book subscriptions.
@jessica_inprogress11 ай бұрын
Yes they really did step up their game! And I hope they do stenciled edges again soon, but I think my favorite is a gradient spray. I'm also addicted, I just got the illumicrate one today I'm so excited. As for switching, I would do a price comparison and compare the last 3-4 boxes.

I agree with everything you said. I also thought Nash was a friend of Cabell’s not their “father figure”. What was the point of the Hollowers who was killed as soon as they stepped foot in Avalon? Their whole existence was pointless. The whole plot was all over the place and nothing flowed. Also the priestesses spent centuries protecting Arthur’s body and Caitrionna took a moment to say, let’s sacrifice him. It’s ok to kill him now. WHAT!! And that spell they used in the end where throughout the whole book it was made clear to the audience they needed 9 priestesses to perform and under no circumstances can a sorceress be a part of any ritual and in the end, it was performed by 2 priestesses, a mortal and a sorceress. That didn’t make sense, especially when they said Flea couldn’t perform the rituals because she hasn’t come into her powers yet, but it worked with a mortal and a sorceress. 🤦🏻♀️🤦🏻♀️ I won’t be bothering with book 2. This book is the worst book I’ve read this year.
@jessica_inprogress Жыл бұрын
Exactly! I also felt that the King Arthur myth was just set dressing and completely forgot to mention it. Like we could have taken it out and nothing would have changed! It is totally going to show up in my worst books of the year.
@pearlisreadingthis Жыл бұрын
@@jessica_inprogress also, there’s a map of Avalon in the beginning of the book, but it was useless because nobody ventured out of the tower until the end of the book. The other thing that really bothered me was at the end when Avalon just appeared on top of that town in England (I think it was Glastonbury). And the four women were standing in the kitchen figuring out their next move, like it’s no big deal that Avalon has been revealed to the world. They protected it from the whole world for millennia and now that the world has seen it, they’re blasé about it, like it’s no big deal. This book was so bad. So sorry for the spoilers.
@jessica_inprogress Жыл бұрын
@@pearlisreadingthis Completely agree! The characters, I felt, never reacted to anything that happened. They just moved on from it because the book had to keep going. I don't even recall them saying anything about being in shock or what have you. And Tamsin going back and forth on what she felt about Nash and him leaving them. I was like pick a side! do you want him back or not? do you hate him or not? And then Bracken brings him back from the dead only to use him as a cliffhanger that wasn't even necessary because Avalon appearing next to what is basically Stonehenge is already enough of a cliffhanger. It just made the whole thing even more messy and makes it possible for her to retcon everyone dying in the end.

I call the Nine Priestess sorceresses in the rant, whoops. 😅
