To Clarify: During editing I was shown the photo which appears @0:55 . This screenshot is from a scammer who had stolen a profile avatar, name, and cover photo from someone who makes the equipment. This is a common practice. Make sure if you are approached by someone or are asked to look for someone make sure that it is indeed them who usually makes the stuff! Fake profiles will have many clues. One of the biggest clues in this one was that the profile was named "Ivan" but the gender had been set to "female" in which when updating their cover photo, it states "Ivan updated her cover photo". Other clues would be fresh profiles or very recent profiles from well known makers who have been around a long time. Or very pushy business practices. ALWAYS verify first!

In my unit we have a rule "When leaving an event or the premises of an event for whatever reason remove anything with insignia on it." And because of that rule we've never had any major issues. And personally the two SS guys are lucky. It's likely their identity won't be revealed and will at the max get a stern talking too. In my area German reenacting is very scarce and there is only one group in my area that does it. And because of that we have to be very careful. If someone like this got our group such negative backlash they would immediately be temporarily removed. It's harsh and mean but it's better to be safe than sorry. Once again great video man. And greetings from Utah.

On occasion, I've sported a full electricians uniform in public outside the reenactment area, but its always been close enough to the event that it only became "good advertisement", as the show was big enough that all the locals knew about it - or maybe I've just been lucky. If by some chance we do go to a "restaurant", store, etc. in uniform, we always ditch the headgear, jackets and anything else that would "give us away" to the "untrained eye". Even if one probably would get away with wearing the full kit most of the time, why "risk it", and for what? As you say, wearing just a shirt, trousers and footwear you just look a little "stupid", old school or a tad weird. Never had a problem with the public because of this - not a single time in over 10-15 years of reenacting SS in different countries. Its better to be safe than sorry! 👍Nice rant! Best regards from Norway 😊

I consider myself lucky to be a part of a reenacting group that has maintained its 3-4 yearly events. I cant speak too much about Pre-Pandemic, as I hadn't joined any groups yet, but lots of the guys I see at events talk about how good things were going before. For example we used to have armored units, sponsored events, and much greater numbers. It's sad to see what a harsh effect the pandemic had on the hobby, but even as a younger reenactor with only three years of proper experience in the hobby, I know that things will pick up again. The hobby has its ebbs and flows, and i still see people getting into it, just knowing that has me hopeful that those great events will return. Glad to see your back doing reenactor rants btw

Things were going in a very positive direction pre-COVID. Sadly you missed out on some amazing events. New ones come and go all the time in this hobby, but sadly I feel a lot of great events got slaughtered in their prime, and events that were just growing got cut down before they could be even better.

Similar story here. I backed off from the hobby quite a bit over the past year, only attended 1 event within the time frame (and that was just a stop by and visit). My attitude changed for reasons I’d rather not get into, but I’ve gradually began getting back into the game. I’ve shifted my focus more on education than popping off blanks, but I do miss the latter as well. A lot of my friends who i enjoyed the hobby with have left, my main unit disbanded, gate keeping has increased, events simply don’t exist anymore, etc. As time goes by, stuff will change. For better or for worse. Hopefully another Youngstown factory comes around the corner…who knows. -Prussian Productions

The gate keeping needs to come to a halt. Our hobby in general, not just certain time periods, are not taking in a boat load of people all the time. Recruiting has always been slow with the exception of some big Hollywood production or video game drawing people into a certain time period. Gate keeping chases away potential people. If we lose potential recruits, it damages further recruiting because they'll likely tell friends or colleagues to not bother. I did not go into detail in the video, but the main reason I was given for my situation with my old Roman Legion was that they require a Legion Impression first due to having too many people who wanted to do Auxilia wanting them to do all the research for them. I was like look, I am an experienced reenactor and help start this Legion, you all KNOW I am not like that. The only question I'd probably ask is which vendors are good for equipment and which to avoid as it's been some years since I had to buy Roman kit. I had a few people (one of which does Auxilia as his primary impression) even go to bat for me. Notta. Someone said I should start my own Auxilia unit and it's like yeah, I could, but running a group is a lot of time and effort... and then I'd be in direct competition with my old Legion which I wouldn't want to do. I've thought about asking again, but we shall see. Roman was very fun and I enjoyed it. I started out knowing only very basic knowledge and learned a LOT from doing that time period. I just argued that I do not in anyway look like a Roman legionary. I would much more be better suited as a Germanic Auxilia. A new Stalingrad would be absolutely amazing.

As a veteran let me just point out something important that reenactors need to remember. And I agree with this video. When you are reacting WW2 events, you are re living what men of both sides went through in that war. If you behave like this especially at a public event, you are not only giving a false perspective of WW2 history, but your honesty disrespecting the veterans. There is a code of conduct and orders of engagement in every aspect. Personally in my opinion these reenactors need to be trained and have a I think that they need to have time to reflect on what their depicting and show respect to the veterans of that war who actually lost their lives or were taking captive shows something that actually happened that’s something that is not possible.

Me and my re-enactment group re-enact the Belgian army in the United Kingdom, there are a lot of other re-enactors with the same impression but their uniforms are less than ideal.. Our group works together with a 99 year old veteran of our unit. When we see other groups, and per example we see that their patches are post war, we tell them. Even the veteran has come up to those groups quite a few times, but they are too stubborn to listen. That's why our group doesn't re-enact following the standard British regulations, per example our unit raided the American 101st Airborne base just after they left for D-day, that's why you see a lot of soldiers from our unit wearing jump boots and other American exclusive stuff. We represent that instead of acting like our unit was holy and did everything correct. Either way, I'm going on a rant myself now 😂😅 Very good video though!

I actually laughed out loud when the GI started punching the German on the ground. At that point the drama was so over the top that it ceased to be dramatic and became comedic. I've always thought that the little fights that always happen during the surrender phase of the scenario were super cringe, even when I was only a spectator. It always earns an eyeroll no matter if I'm in the crowd or in the battle.

I wear only two awards on my SS tunic (bronze infsntry assault badge, HJ pin), none on my Wehrmacht, and none on my US uniforms. The only reason i have any on my SS kit is because (aside from the HJ pin which younger members were encouraged to wear) is because I earned it, i met the qualifications of attending a certain number of events.

@HkSniper

This was the last event there that I am aware of. There were a couple small events there then three large ones including this one. I was at the 3 large events. The second event someone decided to be an idiot and take a dump in one of the toilets in the cells. The site banned us because of this. However, this event was an accident from what I was made aware. We weren't supposed to be booked but got through and they allowed it. The site is now under some big time renovations in the last few years. I doubt now they would allow an event to take place there airsoft wise. I had heard in the '90s they used to do paintball inside, and there was evidence of it.

There are a lot of reenactors that seem to not take it seriously by charging and using goofy tactics. In battles, especially tacticals, I try to survive as if it is an actual battle. A simulated battle using real guns can give you some insight of what tactics work and what doesn't. But the fear factor of real danger is different but for me it wasn't debilitating fear. When I had a defensive gun use, somehow I wasn't scared and I was calm and time was in slow motion. Thankfully the guy who pulled a gun on me ran when I drew my own gun. But that on top of bad car accidents I was in, the fear and trauma sets in after the adrenaline wears off and you think about how it could've ended worse.
