Thank you for the informative video. I've read that the lens only has what is dead centre in focus, the rest is out of focus. Is that true?

You can judge for yourself by what you see in this video. But in general, the image quality is better in the center.

The size, weight, cost, and overall investment just aren’t worth it for the results you’re getting, especially compared to an iPhone or a high-end compact camera. You’re just making things harder on yourself for no good reason.

iPhone image quality has gotten pretty good with the right conditions, but it still has its limitations. Most noticeably in low light and telephoto. I've seen tons of low light iPhone footage. It's still not able to match the performance of full frame yet. Maybe some day. Using a phone is more about convenience. For pure image quality, phone cameras aren't there yet.

I was not aware there was a way to get rid of the lens flare. Is there a program that allows you to do that? Or are you referring to the vignetting?

I think it can be a useful item in certain situations and if you are trying to create a certain look, I don't think it is a lens to be used all the time, but I could think of a few shots that it can be useful, just gotta be creative with it I think. just my opinion, but yea that flare lol, looks like the moon just popped up in your shot.

At an anime convention, you take what you can get. It may be hard to tell, but it was already super crowded down there. So I took these photos from a higher level. If I tried to take photos from the lower level, I would have had people getting in the way of my shots.

I would say so, yes. Overall though, I don't think anyone needs this lens. If you're already using digital zoom, you could just stick with that.

This is one of the 3 flaws of this camera. For the pocket 4 or for a "PRO" - "not pocket" version I would gladly sacrifice the portability aspect for a 10x optical zoom, a squared 3 inch monitor (squared so you don't have to flip it for vertical content) and the addition of a third axis to the gimbal to cancel the up and down movement while you are walking or running. Removable battery, internal storage and a more ergonomic handle (classic gimbal style with more controls) would be some nice improvements, I repeat, for a more pro, less portable version.

Thanks for the video, quite a bit of vignetting and softness in the corners. Center sharpness is fine and usable. I also heard it's a 1.5X not 2.0X, that being the C050 model. Not sure if there's more than one tele lens available.

You mentioned that you’d like a lens that doesn’t have all the flaws of the Ulanzi lens. Who makes the lens you’re speaking of? Last I checked, the Ulanzi is the only game in town. FYI: lens flare is easily to mitigate… just block it with your hand.

There are two others I know of: Eddie Studios and MoA. But the Ulanzi one is better than either of them. Blocking it with your hand is not a viable solution for every use case with the DJI Osmo pocket 3. For example, if I'm recording myself from a distance. Or if I'm already using my hands for something else, like a product showcase. There's no perfect solution unfortunately. But that's not Ulanzi's fault really. It's the limitations of the pocket 3 that makes it difficult to make a tele lens for it.

The Sony ZV-E1 actually has a setting specifically for the light flickering, but it requires me to shoot at a fast shutter speed. I never use it.

Omg that is the biggest flare bubble I have ever seen 😮At this point I think the limitting factor is the maximum weight the gimbal can support. I guess that’s why they cannot make the teleconverter bigger/ heavier

Yep. If the gimbal was stronger, it would be able to support a proper Tele lens. With a lens hood to combat the lens flare.

Thanks for the update. Definitely is a deal breaker for most people. I could understand this being a handy lens at the right price point. Too bad they didn't just release a telephoto lens at a better sweet spot. Even a 1.5x fov is a bump over stock. I wonder if Ulanzi will consider adding stackable ND filters? But yeah hopefully they will go back to the drawing board overall. I don't want them to say this is it and be done with it as is.

The best image quality out of the DJI osmo pocket 3 is when there are no lens attached. Less things to take with me as well. I think I'll just keep it simple and use the DJI osmo pocket 3 at the regular 20mm field of view.

I bought this and found that it wasn't very good. When I complained and asked for a refund, Ulanzi told me I had to return all packaging, send back via trackable method, and document all of it, including the optical issues. Just lately I got a customer-satisfaction email, and the result of that was that Ulanzi suddenly gave me a complete refund. So, all's well that ends well.

The exposure boost is probably the white vignetting you get under nearly every light condition with this lens. It's garbage. Lots of pincushion distortion, too. Worse, Ulanzi demands that you send it back with a trackable method, and that you document that you've sent back the box, the lens, and all relevant product materials. UGH! Don't waste your money.
