Coach - thanks! Do you ever bring the full back - half back closer to the backboard action so they have to sprint back also, vs already being back? It seems there are 2 already back, which may or may not be realistic in game. Thanks again!

Neighbors knows way more than I do. I really like this drill but felt there were many forced, bad shots just in this drill alone. I’m sure at his level this works but at a high school level with boys or girls you need to be careful it doesn’t turn into Rat ball. Maybe the more we practice it, the better we can get? We’ll give it a try. Great conditioning drill for sure.

I really have enjoyed implementing maryland shooting drill , and the transition defense 3 minutes run the clock down. Maryland allows me to reinforce shooting spots and cut routes. And both exercises bring game like stress on my young team. The frustrations and having to find a solution, to push through and not have a breakdown. I sometimes worry it could fracture the team, but i also strongly believe it will improve how they handle stressful game situations, plus benefit of good life skills. The transition defense drill also really helped improving that aspect in a short time. Modern coaching philosophies suggest implementing more games and challenge like exercises, which i personally struggle with because i find them boring , so several exercises I've seen on your channel are, in my opinion, a really good compromise. Lastly, could you show some exercise on how to better protect the paint and stop drives when you get into/close to the paint area. Thank you for sharing your work and process , I watch a lot of clinics, but you are definitely my go-to.

Not many coaches share their drills. I greatly appreciate my friend and mentor, Coach Neighbors for going on KZbin to share some of the drills that he uses or used over the years. This is one of my favorite Green Light shooting drill for my players.

I really like the stuff you do. I'm curious, how much time do you spend in practice shooting? I usually spend 15 minutes of a 2-hour practice shooting. I feel like we need to shoot more, but there are so many things we have to work on I don't know what to sacrifice.

Not sure how the scoring works. Two shots made in a row counts as one? What about making one shot and missing the next, does that count as one too?
@Jake_Stevens2 жыл бұрын
I use a version of this drill and we only count it if they make 2 in a row from a spot.

Excellent presentation but not sure how realistic the full back and half back concept is unless you are playing 3 on 5 in the offensive half court. The drill isn't realistic because those players will never have a head start like that nor will you have the luxury of assigning roles such as full back or half back. Its whoever is back first. there are no assigned checks in transition. Like the tips on communication though, the drill concept is excellent. Thank you

Only thing I don’t like is putting the ball up on the finger pads at the beginning. I think you should use your entire hand when shooting, the only thing not touching the ball should be the very middle of your palm.

A word on the shotclock. I feel like anybody who advocates for them simply doesn't understand not only does it cost a lot to install the systems but it takes a second person to run. Now for a big school with 1k+ kids that may be easier with better budgets and booster clubs. At "sister's of the poor" with 100 kids, you ain't raising that kind of money let a lone finding a second person to run the shot clock. Hell when I did the board for 8 years and then left last year, I got texts about how they couldn't find someone to do that job. Now trying to scrounge up a second person? It's unrealistic at the high school level given the vast monetary gaps between districts, plus private schools.

Private schools have the option of playing under their own rules unless they choose to join the state's governing athletic group. The shot clock is currently being used in eight states and is making the quality of basketball and quality of players in those states far better. There's always a financial burden in any smaller program. That's why good coaches are also good solicitors and conduct good fundraisers.

Do you give points for just made buckets? I like to give points for offensive rebounds and take away points for turnovers.
