There are a few on each line and also, a sign with LM stands for 'longueur maximale' to indicate the maximum length of the tram required to reverse! Thank you for this very informative post about Berlin railway, where I have travelled in 1980s while visiting Germany (then GDR and FRG) from Moscow. I also happened to visit the main railway station Friedrichstrafe Bannhof and Zoologescher Garten. After fall of the Berlin Wall, the Berlin railway station has been developed and modified extensively. While coming from Moscow, Friedrichstrafe Bannhof was the final detraining station.

1:02 The german S-Bahn (short form for "Schnell-Bahn", what means "Fast Train") is simular to a normal railway and uses mostly normal rails which can used by other trains. The trains can speed up faster than regular trains, and there are more doors for a quick passenger change and there are no toilets. Only in Hamburg and Berlin they have a completely different electricity system (and profile), so that no other train can drive on their tracks.

Good news! The airport is now open! I flew into Berlin on September 30 2024 and most of it was fully functional! Access to the train station however leaves much to be desired. It was incredibly confusing and the RB-23 train I needed to take was mislabeled.

Re: your closing comments, David - the idea of the 'joining-up' of the Cromford & High Peak 'Loop' bits sounds good in theory, but it should be remembered that the main (south-eastern) part - Dowlow/Hurdlow to Cromford - has some ferocious gradients which, though walkable, aren't suitable for regular bicycles or cyclists. Meanwhile, the very much abandoned (north-western) part is a bleak and desolate stretch, with numerous sections not possessing any infrastructure that'd be a minimum requisite for a 'normal' bicycle-ride. I believe that there's also a ⅔ or ¾km (sealed) tunnel along the trail, at the Goyt Valley.

I worked in this area for a short time and would walk at lunchtime all around the local area so this is an area I got to know well along the tow paths, under railway arches and through the parks it is a nice area though could change a little at night and squealing tyres could often be heard.

Lichfield deserves a HS2 station the same way Limburg (similar sized cathedral city which is in fact twinned with Lichfield) has this one for ICE.

I wonder why they called it Manchester Docks when the docks were in Salford.
