This isn’t a good movie AT ALL … _BUT…. It’s the movie that got me into movies, so I’m happy to shine up my nostalgia for this edition; even with VS’s super high delivery costs.

Whoever cropped the current version on Paramount + needs a good slap, thank god there’s finally a decent version coming out! Flawed, yes, but Mann & Tangerine Dream & Occult Horror, is a worthy combination

Hey VinSyn, the commentator on this release credits Wong Wai-Tak as playing the cop villain, and while that actor is given a ‘special guest star’ credit in the closing scroll, the crooked cop is actually played by co-director David Lai in what I believe is his only acting role (IMDb gets it wrong, too). While the two ladies are billed in the opening credits, the first two names in the ‘regular’ cast list at the end are David Lai and Corey Yuen, in that order, as they both play the rival cops. The interview with David Lai on the disc is great, but it was a missed opportunity to ask him about playing one of the main characters. Also, you misspelled the Hong Kong production company name at the end of two of the three featurettes (Joe Sui instead of Joe Siu). Minor issue, I know! 😄 Aside from that, this is a great release of an often overlooked film, and it was cool to finally upgrade from my old Mega Star DVD. 😎👍

Loved the book as a kid back in the early 80s. Didn't find out that a film had been made until about 1986(ish) (No internet back then to Google) couldn't believe it - but I think it still took another year to find a copy on video to rent ha ha!.

Why , when ever I watch this film the picture quality and sound are terrible? It could be years apart on different tv`s. It is obviously the film itself, so whats the story?

What’s odd is a film changing the book away from the “Hollywood ending” It could literally have been a good coherent “cinematic universe”

the way this movie has struggled over decades to keep breathing, even thou its director did everything posible to disapear it from existance, is trully reamarkable. This movie is not only a gem, but it open up the world of its book saga , which until this day is to me the most interesting and adictive book saga i have ever read. Nothing has surpassed its great storytelling so far, its a mixture of indiana jones meets the occult and sci fi. I invite everyone to read them when ever you get the chance.

I have no idea about copyright issues and stuff, but I wish VS would consider films such as “I, madman”, “Near Dark”, “Old Enough”, “The Dark Half”, “C.H.U.D.”, and “Trancers”. They’ve made me sooo happy 😢his December with the release of The Keep 😊

If this was a new version, or at least contained the deleted and extended scenes as extras then I would definitely pick this up. But I think I will just wait for Imprints 4K version instead. Looks like the eBay scalpers won again judging by the sheer number of overpriced copies being resold, and how many fans were willing to shell out $400+ for this film. The special effects and visuals are cool, but this film (at least in the hobbled and poorly edited state it's in) is nowhere near worth these prices.

Vinegar Syndrome is a boutique Blu-ray label that licenses, acquires, and restores preserves films from their "original camera negative" film elements. They make Blu-rays of mostly obscure/lesser known films that customers buy. Slipcovers are those cardboard covers that you may have occasionally seen over plastic Blu-ray or DVD cases. Vinegar Syndrome discovered that if they make fancy slipcovers with commissioned art in limited quantities that collectors will pay more money for them, and sometimes even buy movies they probably wouldn't have bought otherwise. Every April 1st, Vinegar Syndrome asks for "donations" at a set price. This is essentially a preorder purchase for a mystery item, which customers will receive in December with their Black Friday order Vinegar Syndrome typically announces their biggest releases on Black Friday, which coincides with a big sale on back catalog movie titles. It's the biggest event for their customers. If one doesn't participate in the Black Friday sale, they still receive their mystery item. This past April, Oscar released a video with an election theme and "campaign," asking for "campaign contributions" as a joke, to promote this year's mystery item preorder. This video is the follow up to that. I hope this helps clear that up for you.

What you get from this video is that people helped pay to restore a forgotten film that no one asked for, and people only remember because its likeable star went on to a whiffle of a career a couple of years later. Stuff like this creates demand where there is none. 😄
