Why are you flying a drone on Dartmoor? The use of drones and model aircraft on any common land within Dartmoor National Park is an offence under the National Park Byelaws. and all other NationL Parks

Hi the area of Bawsey Park you were in is an old part of an active quarry, it still produces silica, mainly for the construction, sports & leisure and agriculture industries; the lakes are pits where they have mined over the years and naturally filled with water. Going into the water is very dangerous, sadly some visitors to the park do not head the "no swimming" signs and people have tragically lost their life. The other side of the site (near the village of Leziate) is the active side. The quarry ships out around 1,500 tonnes of sand several times a week mainly via train. Anyway, thought you might find a bit of background helpful. You were actually near the highest point in Norfolk, the point is just South of West Runton! Cheers Darren

Never feel bad about feeling anxious but if you can identify what your concerns are and address them one at a time you will get there in the end. Why not try a pub stopover as your next adventure. The Dormy House Hotel in West Runton offers overnight stopovers if using the pub/restaurant - but phone ahead
@Thorogoodlife

We do use our Silver Screens in winter when at pub stops or on Aires Camping Cars in areas we know in France but tend to use the Remis blinds in warmer weather
@Thorogoodlife
@Thorogoodlife 25 күн бұрын
That's interesting and good to know. We'd heard not to use them if not on a camp site in case you need to drive away swiftly. I guess it's about assessing the area and making an informed decision.
@JaneDavis-b4t
@JaneDavis-b4t 25 күн бұрын
@@Thorogoodlife to be honest, if you dont use them and there is a hard frost then you would have to get our and clear the screen anyway and it would take longer than whipping off silver screens. We tend to check reviews on Searchforsites and check the type of area - we dont stop in big cities unless in a campsite, for example

Park the van on the drive, don’t connect it up to mains. Then spend a few nights in it “off grid”. Just use the house for the toilet. Do it on a few nights where the forecast is bad and see how long your power lasts (including the Bluetti) and your gas. Do your meals in there and live as though you are 100 miles from home. Monitor the systems, hour comfort and the heat. That’ll give you a “worst case” idea of off grid living so doing it properly, when it’s better weather, will be easier. And if you really cannot manage to keep warm and happy then you can go in the house and resign yourself to the knowledge it’s not for you. Personally I think you’ll be fine. My Swift caravan takes no heating or maintaining heat and if you avoid using anything through a mains inverter (they are not very efficient) just using 12v then it should last ages.
@Thorogoodlife

That's probably not a bad shout tbh. Weirdly it's not having the screen cover that worries me most. So many people have said don't use an external screen cover when wild parking for security reasons.
