One of the most captivating films I have ever watched. Sadly, it also seems to be one of the least known and least watched film too. Great story line, great acting, great music... I am 74 years old and this movie rates somewhere up among the my all time top 5!

Saw this in the theater and loved it all! Disappointed that the Feelies were not on the soundtrack tho.

Love this film for many reasons. The Feelies appearance is one of the reasons. The Bowie cover is awesome for it's quirkiness. After that song the Feelies start another song - one of their's with a cool build that starts to change the mood. Right on cue, Ray Liotta steps into this film and changes the whole tone. Thank you Mr. Demme for that great film work. Feelies rule...!!

Demme really had the sense to recognize that The Feelies were an almost impossibly amazing timestamp for the era but also that they could conceivably portray the kind of group that would be performing at a high school reunion. One of the most cinematically successful partnerships in film.

Liotta's entrance and subsequent impact on this movie is Brandoesque. His character literally turns the tide of this amazing film. I mean, the temperature literally changes! The entire story arc is immediately altered and the film winds up in a VERY different place, than it started. Demme was a master, and this is truly one of the most original and unpredictable films in cinematic history. Another hilarious point is the cameos, and background characters. The guy on the motorycle with the dog, etc. Not one but two...indie cinema "John" cameos...Sayles and Waters. GREAT performances from Griffiths and Daniels. A true must-see!

I love The Feelies, definitely one of the best bands in many a year. On my top ten list of all time favorite bands. I saw this film so long ago, that I had no idea Jonathan Demme had one of my favorite bands playing live in it, must be before I even knew who they were. Although I think it was in '86 was when I discovered their Twin/Tone recordings. Yeah, Jonathan Demme always had that great taste in music. Thanks for posting this and making me aware of this rare live appearance of The Feelies. I saw them live at the Paramount Theatre in Seattle in 1989 as the opening act for Lou Reed. What a show that was!!

Ray Liotta is really good but the last 15 minutes of the film goes way over the top. He goes from charismatic creepy to outright Jason Voorhees by the end.

Exactly. The transition that happens in this two minutes is positively alchemical.

Technically speaking that was Yung Wu playing "Fame," since it was Feelies percussionist Dave Weckerman doing the singing, that band name being the one they performed under when playing Weckerman's original songs, plus covers.
@Blippity_Bloop648 жыл бұрын
Perhaps, but the first song was Crazy Rhythms , which was not a Yung Wu song, plus, the movie was from 1986 and Yung Wu didn't release an album until 1987. Did they perform as Yung Wu in 1986?
