I sold the 610 and went with the 6176. The 610 was a fantastic unit with an awesome sounding color to it! The 6176 had that same color but was a little thinner and I enjoyed having extra control over the compressor section. I now have a neve 1073spx that I am keeping forever. The UA's are amazing little units and I kinda miss them!

Does the amount of liquid effect the sound, as well as the type?
@mrpres17
@mrpres17 Ай бұрын
I didn't test the amount of liquid but you'd have to really be precise about pouring. It's a very small cup so I don't think it would make much of a difference if at all

I have a 6176, I wonder how it compares to a 610 plus an 1176 in terms of sound quality or any downsides to having them combined. Would you happen to know? Thanks

Apple sauce and Buffalo sauce had a great low gain Fuzz Face tone to it. Throw in a good OD into that and you’d have a killer fuzz drive tone!

Hello, I came to your page looking for answers about my 6176. It is only 2-3 years old, so I do not believe it is one of the tubes (preamp side tube), but I can be wrong. I only use it for vocals, and I never used the compressor side, so compressor is not hooked up. I am unsure if it is working or if I have it connected properly. My chain is tlm 102, 6176, apollo twin mkii quad, MacBook pro. About 2 mths ago I decided to shut my studio down, and that time everything was working great, no problems with anything, but now that I decided to start recording again my mic is not working when hooked to the 6176, so I have to bypass it in the chain to record. When I flip switch from split to join and turn knob to compressor side, and it is still not plugged in, the meter moves when speaking into the mic, but I still have no sound 😠🤯. My question to you or someone who can help is how can I find out if something is wrong, could it be something in the chain (apollo twin I attempted a factory reset), or run some type of a test. That piece of hardware outboard gear was 3k. Thanks in advance.

You plug the mic into the mic line an on the compressor side you come out into your interface set your attack an release time attack maybe at 3 fast release set the input too 5 output 3 if too much compression just dial back set your impedance make sure you got it on GR the comp so the meter will work it’s a button on the back push it in are leave it out it should be one an one on the back one in mic an output of the comp to your balance line in

Does the light panel in the T4 have a part number?

The silver can is the input transformer in the 610. Also, those are the light dependent resistors on the T4 circuit not caps

I would guess that the components inside the black box of the LA610 are the optical elements of the LA2A-style compressor.

When he was talking about the WA47jr being used as a room mic in Figure 8 capturing the sides of the room, there are some additional details that may help some of you out there: Figure 8 has the strongest Null Point of any pickup pattern. On that 47jr mic when set to Figure 8, the null point follows that metal piece that separates the two sides of the metal grill that surrounds the capsule. If you point that little strip of metal (the Null Point) directly at the source, you will capture the best possible room ambience and natural reverb, because the Null Point is removing the direct transients/sound from the source. The louder the source the more drastic the effect; this would include drums, guitars, large vocal ensembles, orchestras, brass and woodwinds. Using polar patterns is a beautiful tool for shaping sounds, not just for reducing/removing bleed. Using the null point in combination with the initial source, the room, and any type of gobo, baffle, or acoustic blankets (to even further shape the sound) allows the engineer to really paint the picture of the sound stage with vivid accurate detail. (On a side note) Figure 8 is such a powerful tool in that it allows a singer songwriter who plays guitar to record the voice and the guitar simultaneously with up to zero bleed. This allows for further processing without any bleed causing a roadblock for things like compression. You can compress as much as you want on either mic without raising the volume of bleed. Compressing the vocal mic just affects the vocals, and compressing the guitar mic just affects the guitar. This eliminates problems with phase cancellation resulting from processing the bleed. Good luck out there everyone, both new to production and old timers that have been around the block many times over.

How is the record label holding up? Is it tearing? I heard when these are used on a six string the pick creates gouges in the vinyl record. Have you heard of this happening? Thanks.

Cool video, but the wave form in pro tools, and the sound, seems like it's clipping in parts. When setting your gain aim for -10db on the volume meter in pro tools.

Doing this for my jazz bass as I want to make a custom shaped pickguard to cover the routing space around the neck pick up and also covers that routing gap from the neck pick up to the volume control where the metal plate is. Right up to the edge.
