According to Bayeux Tapestry the first encounter was on flat ground and English Heritage accepts the fight was at the other end of the High Street. See Orderic Vitalis ( Huscarls only) Senlac = Saxon for "Beautiful meadow"

I drive through Alfriston every day to go to work and then to come home in the evening in the direction shown in the video. Such a lovely village and I am very attached to it. Not often traffic free as another commentator mentioned.

I use to drive my horse and cart though there nearly everyday I even done a christmas fate one year with father xmas on my cart around the village it was even on the front page of the news paper beautiful village 😊
