Thank you for not bashing Allstate! I have seen repairability tests completed clearly showing repairable for like 24 damaged shingles and just ripped because we have guidelines! And like you said there’s either damage or there’s not and so often the contractors make us look like trash for doing our job and holding to the policy. Granted there adjusters that aren’t great either, but most often they just don’t want the work if it’s not automatically replaced. We HAVE to follow our policy guidelines! Thank you again!

He's partly right. Another row of shingles should be on top of the boot, however what would really help is a piece of ice and water overlapping the boot flange and adhered to the sheathing above. You don't want to rely on shingles to flash roof penetrations. It's interesting how these 'professional roofers' almost know what's going on but still don't grasp basic roofing concepts.
@peterpan310002 ай бұрын
I read that you can use can use roof sealant so it can adhere to the shingle on the sides.

That is our general practice when doing roof replacements and repairs. We are just explaining in simple terms what is currently incorrect and what would suffice to fix the solution. Thank you for your comment!

@ProPerformanceRoofingАй бұрын
We did! Claim got approved and replaced with 30 year architectural with drip edge and ice and water shield in valleys and around penetrations with replacement flashing and gutters/gutter guards.
@courtneylewis8993 ай бұрын
Easy answer.. the shingle that was damaged lost adhesion. Heat/cold cycles will do this. Or debris.. iv seen roofs that were cooked and adhered so strongly they seemed glued have wind creases. And when I did a repair test chunks of matting transfered. That long strip is suspect but uplifts have been known to cause groupings of shingles to un-seat and word of the wise. If the previous company watches this you could be putting yourself on the line for slander..

Should the stack pipe boot be sealed with Geo cell as an added precaution to prevent future leaks, since the boot can shrink or expand from weather conditions through the years?

no
@ProPerformanceRoofingАй бұрын
No but we put ice and water shield on the roof deck around all penetrations and then caulk the flange/pipe marriage.

@ProPerformanceRoofingАй бұрын
GAF will. Thank you for your comment!
@denverscott37 Жыл бұрын
2 under, 2 over, that's normally how it works out, but not always. You need the top of the last shingle under the pipe boot to come up high enough to where any water that runs behind the shingles over the pipe boot, will run off onto the top of the last shingle you put under the pipe boot. Pretty much the same with roof louvers (750s) , 2 under, 2 over.. if you don't get that last shingle under the pipe boot high enough, water could get between the last shingle you put over the boot, and go right in the top of your last under shingle and could cause a leak.

New builds often involve unskilled migrant labor, working without proper oversight or supervision. Structural problems on newly built homes may take a few years to manifest- well after the expiration of a home warranty. Best to hire a qualified inspector to check the progress on a new build, but some homebuilders have a contract provision that prohibits independent inspection.
@ProPerformanceRoofing Жыл бұрын
Thanks for the comment! Yes that is true. My concerns isn’t that the labor industry is 99% Hispanic but rather a GC/project management issue as most laborers are paid low margins and not being properly vetted before working for a builder.

thnx for the info. BUT one question. Why so many roofers do things like this to their customers? Whats a good question should a home owner as a "roofer" before giving them the job, to kind of hold them down to good workmanship? I find that roofers are generally not HONEST people. thru the years of dealing with some many. And each one ALWAYS DOG the other before them, but STILL DO THE SAME crappy work. Why so many DISHONEST PEOPLE BECOME ROOFERS? or Why roofings attracts dishonest people so? It is disgusting. Sorry for ranting on ur platform, but i was ripped off in NYC, may times, and now I am in Orlando Florida,, and again i am got rip twice already. Just spend 11thou, for a new roof, 5yrs ago, and getting the run around from the "ROOFER", to return to fix the leak. Its leaking in the valley that leads to an abutment area, and i am sure he does know the right way to fix the type on problem. My apologies agian for the rant, because you seem and sound like an exception.

Fada, my name is Brandon and I work with/for Ben at Pro Performance. Thanks for watching our video. I've have actually worked in the industry as a Property Adjuster and inspector before working with Ben. The most simple answer for why this industry attracts "Shady" people is you can make a lot of money quickly, especially after a storm. The margins are pretty good for the sales guys, and can make these margins even bigger by cutting corners on materials and hurried workmanship. One of the reasons why I came to work for Ben and he started his own company is because we do care about taking care of people! So yes I do truly believe we are one of the exceptions! We are located in North Carolina and we have a lot of roofing companies come and go all the time in this area. Unfortunately a lot of homeowners don't do their homework before using a company. They will use a company out of the area, and have staffs that don't know anything about the industry, just looking to make a quick buck. We are a young company, but we have a lot of experience in the industry and will be in the industry until we retire. We are very hands on when we do our installs or repairs. Ben who owns the company goes to every roofing job. We can do this because we stay small enough to ensure the quality, and the installers know exactly what they need to do a proper install or repair. However most companies don't do this and low quality work is very common. Which like I said, money is the motivator. Which is sad because you can still earn a good living doing high quality work and treat people the right way. If you ever move the NC we would love to help you out! Sorry you've had bad experiences and hopefully you can get the contractor to do the right thing or find someone who can do that job right.

ha ha. why are all painters drunks? why are all sheetrock mechanics short dingbats? why are all paving contractors Italian fly by nights? where do the Irish mafia come from in disasters? why are all dumpster providers Italian? are the Irish or Italians actually able to do good work but just won't? would you go to an Italian or Irish dentist? why would you let them on your roof? should the Irish or Italian be allowed in local politics? all questions to ponder.

I will have roof replaced soon. And I want to add new vent from bathroom fan. Should I wait for the new roof is done or do it while they putting a new roof, meaning I get all material for vent ready and drill hole for vent while they are replacing new roof. Thanks in advance
@blazeharding574 Жыл бұрын
You want your roofers to install the vent when they are doing the roof, not afterwards.
@ProPerformanceRoofingАй бұрын
An experienced crew should be able to do all the labor and cutting. Yes do the vent when replacing the roof unless your roof has 10-15 years of life left on it.

My 14 yr old custom house had water coming through in master bathroom roof. I have a pass through fireplace in master bedrm/master bath. Last January. I had roofing company come and see - they said I needed ‘debris’ cleaned and some flashings replaced. And some tiles near both chimneys were cut. Cost was $3,200. They cleaned all the debris from the valleys and cut some of the tiles back away from chimneys.This was Jan 2023. Here is what they wrote on my invoice: “ An inspection of the roof was undergone to determine what maintenance was required. We found the tiles behind the two chimneys to be too close to the chimneys allowing debris to build-up which caused the water to overflow. This was repaired by cutting the tiles by 6" to allow the water to properly flow. Secondly, we found the valley metal ends were on top of the tile and this causes the water to spill over the valley and run allow the underlayment, which can cause the underlayment to prematurely deteriorate. This issue was repaired by cutting back the valley metal ends and installing a lead extension on the five valleys. Lastly, we found the valleys and cricket to have debris. We underwent a clean-up, which will allow the water to properly flow…” We had a lot of rain in Feb and March and even some in August. All seemed, but to my shock, last week, I noticed a stain on ceiling of a bedroom not anywhere near where the January leak was. But this bedroom backs up to living room in area where there is another fireplace/chimney. I don't know when this happened. I seldom go in that bedroom and I seldom look at my ceilings. But water must have gotten in somehow. . I called the roofing company and left a message. Waiting for them so call me back. I got a ladder and went up to feel the stain and there is no wetness or puffiness on the ceiling. November is a month we often get rain. Of course if we get rain before the roofer calls me back I will be sure at watch the ceiling where that stain is. Is it possible that there was an unnoticed issue in this room but no problem NOW since the roofer worked on BOTH chimneys?
@denverscott37 Жыл бұрын
Take a nickel and outline the stain, then keep an eye on it after it rains, if the stain goes outside of the line you made, you've got an active leak. Use a nickel, not a pencil, the pencil lead will bleed thru when you eventually are secure that you've got the leak fixed, the line you make with the nickel will easily be covered when you eventually hit it with paint.

New construction roof builds are atleast 50% or more of the roof repair calls we get weekly. A majority of the roof repairs we do are on roofs between 2-5 years. Sadly, new construction homes if not built by a custom builder, are low quality homes with poor workmanship. Thanks for the comment!

Thanks . I am doing a valley on a 6x10 section of a roof over the basement door. I have to weave the new shingles with the existing shingles. I will be putting a metal for my valley and not ice and water drip edge (membrane). Also, i would like to ask that if the existing roof has 3 layers of shingles how do I build up the new roof to the height? I am doing this DIY. I want to thank you again,
@ProPerformanceRoofing Жыл бұрын
Good luck with your repair attempt! Roofing repairs can be fun at the DIY level but they can also turn into a situation where you find yourself hiring a roofing contractor to finish it for you. All jokes aside, 3 layers is nightmare. The only way I could suggest having the roof plane flush with the rest of the roof is to install back 3 new layers of shingles. I think you could be fine with just one layer but it would be helpful if I could see it. Let me know if you have any additional questions. Thanks for the comment!
