Thank you for the beautiful music. Would you consider recording this hymn to the tune 'Sanctus' by John Richards (Isalaw), 1843-1908? I love this hymn to that tune.

Many thanks for the comment. I hadn't come across the tune you mentioned, but have just tracked it down in an old Welsh hymn-book! I'll certainly add it to the list of requested items. It may be a while yet before I can get new things done, but I'll let you know once it's ready. God bless. Matthew

Excellent hymn! I had never heard that tune before. Thank you so much!

Thank you! It is a nice, bright tune (helped by its A major key) which matches the joy of the words with their rich imagery. The words remind me greatly of Psalm 148, from where I'm sure the author drew his inspiration.

My 7 years old daughter has been practicing the tune St. Matthew. This piece is a great help. Thank you for sharing

It is a splendid tune by William Croft, who was at one point Organist of Westminster Abbey. If your daughter is learning the tune at the age of seven, she is doing remarkably well. Wishing you all every blessing, Matthew

Grand old hymn thank you so much

Thank you! It is a hymn that is sadly omitted from most modern hymn books, being almost entirely abandoned from the 1960s onwards.

Thank you, and it's always a joy to know these less-familiar hymns are appreciated! This one has a simple, child-like tune well suited to the text, and it would make a good Sunday school hymn. God bless, Matthew

Yes,it's a very innocent childlike song and the words are beautiful, so full of love and gentleness. It takes me back to my primary school days,and now I'm older,I'm able to appreciate the meaning of the words. God Bless you Mathew, Fiona ❤.

Beautiful hymn. Beautiful tune and encouraging lyrics.

Thank you for the comment. Llangloffan is a wonderful, solemn Welsh hymn tune. Of the various hymns set to the tune, I chose these words which come primarily from the parable of the ten virgins (Matthew 25) and the return of Christ and the marriage feast of the Lamb in the book of Revelation. Wishing you every blessing, Matthew

It reminds of my local church Takaungu Methodist. We sing this tune in Swahili without an organ. Nilipokumbuka dhambi zangu.
@HymnsTTA9 ай бұрын
Yes, I think this hymn would sound nice unaccompanied too, especially at the end of a quiet and reflective evening service. I don't know Swahili, but I might suppose the words to be similar to the English, namely a prayer asking for God's peace and protection as the day's worship draws to its close. Wishing you every blessing. Matthew

I really appreciate the cadence with which you play this great, majestic hymn of the church. I have been a church musician and organist for 35 years. One of the things I take the most pride in is the way I lead the choir and congregation in hymn singing.

Thank you for the comment and encouragement! This hymn seems to be slipping out of popularity these days, which is a pity. The words from the end of Matthew 14 and the end of Mark 6 are well served by the bold and majestic tune. Wishing you every blessing in your service to the Lord as a musician and choir leader. Matthew

I will admit that my hearing is not good, but even before my hearing was damaged, I usualy could not enjoy organ music, and this video is a good example of why I could not..

Hello Bryant, I've just looked through the list and I have in fact recorded it (to the tune of Salzburg). It's about halfway through the next CD, so if I'm able to maintain the present rate it should be uploaded early in the new year.

God bless you for keeping these “old” hymns alive and full of beauty! Most churches have lost the wonder and spiritual power of these hymns, and have compromised their music to try and make it similar to the carnal music of the present day.
@HymnsTTA Жыл бұрын
I'm really glad to hear you're appreciating the music. I've tried to include hymns both well-known and more obscure, those with sublime poetry as well as ones whose message and imagery are a little more straightforward whilst not compromising on Christian truth.
