I painted the roof of my 1kw AC cooled shipping containers. We had a 96F day both a week before and a week after I painted the roofs. Before painting hottest temp was 94F. After painting with a single coat, the hottest temp was 78F. I used "APOC 243" from lowes. 5 gallons for $100, 3.5 gallons coated 1000sqft. My containers are partially shaded by trees. I am in Alabama 30 miles from the gulf coast, so fairly far south in the USA,
@rvseeingyou17 күн бұрын
Thank you for sharing your experience! That’s an impressive temperature difference, and the ‘APOC 243’ sounds like a great option. Since our roof doubles as a rooftop patio, I’ll check if the paint is rated for foot traffic. But I’ll definitely look into it-thanks again for the recommendation!

You are using brute force to overcome the heat with 5 A/C units. Consider building porches on the South and West of the casita to shade the structure. Also, maybe dig earth tubes to passively cool. The ground a few feet down or below a meter has a mild environment and may assist in maintaining milder temps.
@rvseeingyou29 күн бұрын
Thanks for the suggestion! You're right, relying on A/C does feel like brute force sometimes. Fortunately, we only need AC 2-3 months of the year.

you bring up such an important issue about work. Many folks just assume they are going to move down to Mexico and find a job or open a business etc...then they are ataken back when they find that you can't be an alien and just open up a new place or get a job without tons of paperwork (and with the job) making sure your job is a skill set that won't take a job away from a natural born citizen. They key to understanding (and you are so spot on) imported things are expensive things made locally are not. My husband likes coffee creamer the natural kind WOOF! it's expensive because it's made in the US.. duh. and Tomar....uhhh Pickle Ball that is your social circle. :) Kelly, I'm much more your style...happy to be alone, my husband is the Mayor of every town he goes too, never met a stranger.

This just made my feed and is a year old, so my comments may be outdated. Quinta Lupita is a Talevara retail shop, although I believe still owned by a local family. They used to have the shop at a home a few blocks away; it disappeared for a year or so and re-appeared at this townhouse. That townhouse was the first piece of property we looked at almost 8 years ago. I hope you find and promote Ibarra Pottery on Prieto, in the heart of the Esterito neighborhood. The pottery looks much like Talevara but is handmade in La Paz, by a local family. They have a variety of items but may be limited in inventory. You generally find the family working in the shop. Prices are competitive with Quinta Lupita.
@rvseeingyouАй бұрын
When we were scouting locations for our video, we visited both shops. In Ibarra, we were casually walking around with our camera visible but not recording. To our surprise, a woman at the register accused us of coming in without intention to buy and questioned if we were filming (which we weren’t). This unpleasant experience made our decision easy. The other shop was much more welcoming and ultimately earning our business for the sinks we needed. We wouldn’t shop at or return to Ibarra. We didn’t include this information in the video as I didn’t think it would be relevant to the overall content. Important to note: We didn’t ask for or receive any discounts in exchange for filming.
@stevefritz5182Ай бұрын
Ibarra considers their work proprietary and, as you saw, they have signs about no pictures. Sometimes, with a small family shop, you get big personalities. We've had both positive and negative experiences at both stores. Thanks for the reply.

I will NEVER understand why people move to Mexico when all the Mexicans are leaving for the United States. SOMEONE PLEASE EXPLAIN?
@rvseeingyouАй бұрын
Sure I can explain. The majority of people migrating from Mexico to the U.S. are doing so to improve their economic status ($$) and find better opportunities. On the other hand, people (myself included) choose to move to Mexico for various reasons. For example, the cost of living here is often lower, allowing for a higher quality of life on a budget. Plus, the culture, climate, and community offer a sense of peace and fulfillment that many people seek. In other words, we aren’t chasing money ($$).
