I had a friend in junior high school who was not a really big Trek fan. But after IV came out, we were at lunch and he was asking where were we supposed to get all of the resources needed to make spacedocks in the future? It was mindboggling to him how we could jump from building an aircraft carrier to a floating city.

The opening of this movie is so jarring compared to the end of the previous. Scotty's nephew was dead and he was destroyed, yet here hes jovial and normal
