Grew up in the 80s in Ohio and fell in love with ‘66s. My dad found a ‘64 TriPower with the original red line tires, baby blue paint - amazing car that was trailered in from Cali. My father thought the motor might be too much for his 16 year old son - he was so right. Two months later the buyer (a good friend of the family ) bought the car. It was then when he allowed his girlfriend son drive the ‘64 to prom. The car ended up around telephone pole that same night, thank God the prom-goers were not seriously hurt. To this day, I still think about my dad’s wisdom and that GTO. So if you think my teenage years were lost, that’s not the case. A few months later (with my own Cash ) and yes, my dad found the seller, I bought a 1970 LeMans with Judge striping. Man was that ride sweet… Thanks for the memories Gran Turismo Omologato,

That is excersise for that 389, but not abusing it. I would rather see someone enjoying it instead of living in a trailer under a cover.

Now if I were driving that car, at about 4:10 where he crests that little hill, a cop would be there with his radar gun. 😟

I need to borrow your car one time before I die. I've wanted one of those my whole life since my Dad had a 64 Bonneville back when I was a kid.

What a gorgeous car. A friend in my neighborhood had one in red and it was CLEAN, except the 389 2×3 needed a rebuild. I could have bought it for 1500.00 but the rebuild scared me. I should have bought it and rebuilt the motor.

It would be a lot cooler with some times and suspension work outback lol. Seems to be lifting pressure off the right rear and steering right out of the hole but it probably has 4-link and adjust that out of it. Badass car and runs. I have 71 Formula 400 13.5@104 lol and my 73 TA feels at least half a sec quicker but nothing like this!!

Cool video. You did what we all wanted to see and not a bunch of filler bs to add time. I’ll save this to my hot rod, Pontiac and GTO playlists. Right on brother. I am restoring a 67 GTO now with 400 and #670 heads 4 speed and 3.42 posi rear but 10 bolt. I also have a 71 Formula 400 goes 13.5@104 and 73 Trans Am not been to the strip but 4spd (th400 for now) and feels about half second quicker than my Formula. The Formula 400 has #48 head 10.75 compression and 068 cam and the TA is stock 455 with the #96 heads from the formula giving me around 9.2 compression and summit 2802 cam which is about the same as the factory Pontiac grind 068 cam with more lift and just a bit more duration. That cam took some bottom end from my 400 vs the 068 but the 455 does very well with it. Your car runs hard and I love that 1 year 1964 GTO the only one that had that tempest look from early 60s. I really dig the 64. Dad has a 65 that needs resto it’s 389 4spd but we have a 1969 428 YK all stock 390hp to put in. It’s a low mile engine from a totaled Grand Prix many years ago that’s been in out 72 GTO for a short time and it has great power. It feels like the torque of a 455 along with the top end of a 400. My favorite but so hard to find now is the 421 376hp tripower. That’s the engine to have in an old goat imo. They rpm well and work perfectly with a 4spd and 3.90 gears on the strip. Sorry to go on but I’m wound up after watching the video lol. Take care bud. I’m off to see if you have anymore footage. ✌🏼👊🏻

Props to Pops for knowing how to sled. Glad I hung onto my 64, still, well runs much faster and handles so much better than originally did. Damn thing now stops nice too, disc brake upgrade. Yeehaa for cali cars, no reason rust...yet.

Great exhilarating ride, but for the video, you should have "tached it out" in the first 3 gears. I mean really "airing it out", full throttle and take us through the gears as if you were at a drag strip and racing against the clock! Maybe you just didn't want to put the old girl through that kind of strain. I'm 70, so I remember these cars when they were new. We knew a family who had about 6 children in my small town of DeQuincy, LA. While on my bicycle, I remember seeing the oldest brother's brand new GTO parked outside their house on the street in late '63 or early '64 and all us neighborhood kids talking about it. Besides the Chevy 409, this was the first mass produced and marketed "musclecar", a moniker that hadn't come into being yet in those early years.
