What a fascinating story. Thankyou so much. A great experiment and a valuable one. However, in hindsight gathering together a bunch of high functioning adults is a pretty lopsided selection of people to put in a 'confined space' for 2 years. How about some babies for starters..... some machine operatives.....some cleaners....a person who loves to do laundry.....a chef? ......a person for spiritual guidance.......OK a hell of a lot more than 8,,,,,,,and then the mice......The biosphere provides an abundance of leather and protein, albeit in a tiny form......In some parts of the world, and not unsophisticated parts, people still eat rodents and cockroaches..... Also of course, secluded communities have existed for millennia. Its a real testament to the people involved that they were able to overcome their differences and grow to love the space. The mutability and adaptability of the human spirit.

Biosphere Mars will be necessary before a group of people are sent to Mars. Theory is a good starting point, but a real experiment brings out all the flaws of a theory. Information from previous biospheres experiments will be very important.

I remember this project. I watched the TV coverage and felt it was biased against it. This was definitely a result of trying to conceal mistakes. They should have shown the problems and solutions, the ones that needed external intervention, like the mouse traps would have highlighted where things went wrong that weren’t anticipated. Highlighting the difficulties would have shown the project was an experiment, that it was very difficult. An explanation that a CO2 scrubber was installed as a safety device to protect the crew’s health would have been a simple disclosure that would have enhanced the project’s credibility. A mission on the Moon or Mars wouldn’t have been unsupported. So, Biosphere 2 shouldn’t have been expected to have been wholly self supporting from the beginning.

It's a shame that Merlin's board games are not available to the public anymore. Perhaps there is enough information yet intact for people to create DIY versions of the game and play it to unlock its mysterious potential?? I personally cannot abide games normally, because life is so short, and I never have any time to waste in frivolous jack-assery, but in this case I might be willing to make an exception. I am open to the idea that the game may have been based upon channeled information, as channeling is a well-established reality, (in my opinion,) and I believe that many of humankinds' greatest creative achievements are actually channeled from a higher plane, so to speak. Yes, the Muses are real, and so are the aliens, so why not a board game with occult and psychic properties? As for the crop circle phenomenon, I think that anybody who researches it seriously will soon be forced to the conclusion that they cannot all be made by hoaxers, and that some non-human intelligence is actually at work from time to time. I believe that many "true" crop circles have been witnessed being constructed, in mere moments, while strange lights flickered and swooped about the fields. If these phenomena do indeed come from a nonhuman intelligence trying to communicate with the human race, then any hoaxer who waddles forth to flatten crops in an attempt to muddy these waters is comparable to a desecrator of sacred ground. In this and in all other arenas in which they fling their metaphorical poo, hoaxers reveal themselves to be the utter wastes of oxygen that they are. A pox on all hoaxers, says I! Why would anybody spend real time and energy just to perpetrate a public lie? The truth is far more exciting, and the truth (in my opinion,) is also sacred, so hoaxers are an example of humanity at a very low ebb of intelligence and decency. Anyway, I loved this video, and I thank you for creating it. Apologies for the editorializing and pontificating. I believe I've consumed a bit too much caffeine this morning. All the best, N.

I feel like this project would have done better to have been quietly executed, well documented, and then presented to the world after the fact as an initial experiment. But, yeah. Hindsight…

This was an experiment. Experiments are there to try. Hardly any experiment turns into full success, and they don't have to. Experiments are a means of learning. Humans use the wheel since millennia, but we still tweak them, make improvements etc. That doesn't mean the first wheel failed, it only means it was a first step. I find it rather odd from media to actually expect everything to run perfectly smooth, because had ever even tried before.

Fascinating! I vaguely remember the publicity around this project at the time but I didn't know the details and outcome until now. I guess it was at least partially successful. One problem, I feel, was the hype when it would have been far better to have gone into this endeavour with a completely open mind as to what might ensue. It would be interesting to repeat this experiment somewhere else and under much more rigorous scientific direction as we know so much more about how ecosystems function, etc, and the lessons learned from Biosphere 2 would hopefully not be wasted second time around. Peter, all your channels deserve to be more widely subscribed! You are a consummate story teller and far, far better than many better known channels. I look forward to seeing more!

This sounds like its full of smear campaign. It an experiment sometimes people act very weird its not like its public dollars. My only real criticism is that they should have started with a smaller time scale. 2 years is massive. 3 to 6 months should have been a real goal at first. With all new ventures you can never been sure exactly what you will need or what obstacles you may face that you did not account for. Getting your feet wet after working out the kinks would have saved them a lot of heart ache.

The Bass family is from here in Fort Worth and they (at least 1 of the brothers) invested billions into this project. They have 2 skyscrapers in downtown with their own police force, and their family compound is about 8 minutes from my house (it is walled off with a big brick wall). They did(and still do) a lot for the city, but this was truly wild!

No true scientist would look at this experiment as a failure….as loads of data were produced and immense lessons were learned. How anyone thought that this enormous undertaking should’ve remained rigid, and that, in example, unforeseen changes in the atmosphere shouldn’t be tended to, are not scientifically inclined. Biosphere 2 was a ginormous hypothesis, based on hunches and predictions, that ended up being huge learning lessons. The scientific method was obviously applied, but changes to the experiment should’ve been communicated to all involved, and best in real time. Biosphere 2 had no other precedent, it had no other comparable experiment to draw from, and that is why it enrages me when I hear “scientists” berate this very valuable undertaking. Science is all about putting a question to a test to see if your hypothesis holds…gather lots of data, analyze said data, and reproduce results. So many extremely important lessons were learned and it’s a shame that there was no recreated/tweaked experiment that was worth a damn. Just another example to leave business out of science.

It was a flawed experiment, but that doesn’t mean it was bad, many first experiments fail, you learn from the mistakes and try again. That is the tragedy of Bioshere 2, we didn’t learn and try again.

The great inventions and innovations that have come about due to space research have benefited humanity immensely in the past 70 years or so, How are you enjoying the use of the technology which is allowing you to be able to communicate globally via this web site? Try it without the use of anything gained from space research and satellite technology, But long before the internet and mobile phones and home computers, space technology was helping with weather forecasting already responsible for the saving of millions of lives, we use satellites to monitor the health of crops, giving farmers the ability to spot an 'issue' before it becomes a problem, again, saving millions of lives in preventing crop failures, and earning billions for the global farming communities. the countless inventions that we take for granted every single day without giving them a thought, many would never have happened had it not been for space research.

I believe he was visited.... I'm listening to this and thinking 🤔 It would make sense to pass it off as a simple boardgame as it's actually a communication device, just like the ouija board. Then he says that's what Merlin said to him!!... Everything we are and exist amongst is energy, every single last little thing is energy. The darkness has tried since the dawn of time to hide and suppress us from what's true and powerful. Of course they'd shut him down and imprison the man and defame him. Couldn't have the people finding out what they truly are....
