Hello mate, I'm in a bit of a pickle and was wondering if you can help. My old man recently got an IC-E90 from my brother, but doesn't have a charger or anything. I have found a BC-110D Power supply online, but does he also need to have the BC-139 desktop charger, or can he just buy the power supply, plug it in direct to the handset and charge it that way? Any information you can give, and any help on where to find these bits for less than extortionate prices would be much appreciated. And I'm sure this video will also come in handy, once he has the charger haha! Cheers boss
@CodfishCatfish3 ай бұрын
@@MechaPlays hi, yes the BC139 desktop charger is required for fast charging but Icom also have a rather weird PSU for direct charging which is 11vdc….. yes that’s correct 11vdc. The output has no special switching and is a simple wall wart power supply. If you have QRZ then look up my callsign G5STO and email me for more information. Please don’t go and buy the BC-110D until I’ve checked the specs. The BC139 needs a normal 12vdc PSU but as mentioned the IC-E90 also works direct with a special 11vdc PSU. It’s around 14vdc until under load which is expected. Email me through QRZ please before you buy anything, regards de Spence G5STO

@@CodfishCatfish Appreciate the response, and don't worry we won't be buying anything until he knows for sure what he needs to get haha. I shall pass the information on, and let my old man take it from there (: Thanks again!
@CodfishCatfish3 ай бұрын
Fine business. As mentioned in the video that you can use any 12vdc PSU for the BC139 so long as you have the larger 2.5mm 5.5mm type DC jack I think it is. It’s not the smaller 2.1mm 5.5mm jack. The official Icom charger will plug directly into the side of the radio and no need to faff about with battery swaps like the video as it simply charges the battery while attached to the radio.

Do you have a part number for the military version??? Thanks
@CodfishCatfish8 ай бұрын
Yes it’s a Plessey PV1415- 30mhz to 88mhz VHF as I suspected and probably designed for the Clansman PRC351/352 or possibly the Clansman VRC353. Glad you enjoyed the video.
@craigtull23618 ай бұрын
@@CodfishCatfish Oh, you were implying it was a military VERSION of the SCG 303, they don't even cover the same frequencies.
@CodfishCatfish8 ай бұрын
@@craigtull2361yeah sorry about that. I was merely pointing out that this was like a “military version of” but I’m sure there is a HF version but not made by SGC. Plessey Avionics made a lot of military equipment and it will be considerably more robust. To be honest if you could separate the whip and terminate it then I cannot see why it wouldn’t tune up on HF as its centre fed. The base “if I remember right” has part of the tuning components in it. I might make another video on this and see if the whip tunes without the base?

The solution is the fan was faulty and Creality replaced it under warranty. The did complain at first that it was not something that’s normally covered by warranty but eventually sent a replacement. However these fans are very cheap and can be bought just about anywhere. I hope you solve your issue

Hi, My 5400 is a little noisy when moving and I think it needs lubrication. Is their a guide available for that kind of maintenance?
@CodfishCatfish2 жыл бұрын
Hi, yes there are a number of things you can do but you really need to dedicate yourself to a total overhaul as both Kenpro KR5400 and KR5600 (same as Yaesu G5400) use individual ball bearings as supports for both elevation in two cages and azimuth along the perimeter of the housing and it’s well worth changing them during a service. You may also wish to invest in two new capacitors for motor run and also two new potentiometers. The big problem is water ingress and it’s nearly impossible to keep it out as water runs via the bearings and into the housing and makes mush of the grease. This then makes noisy bearings and gears as you would think grease is waterproof!! It isn’t well not the grease Yaesu use. I personally replace the grease with a good grade marine grease. Generally the motor won’t really need an overhaul as they are incredibly well made. However the gears tend to suffer with noise when there is a lack of grease as the high speed gears tend to fling off the grease under rotation so it’s important to pack the right parts with grease to make sure the grease can only fling so far. Another annoying issue is the inner plastic gears getting worn shafts and they tend to amplifier the motor sound. Also be weary of the main gear on the final drive running dry of grease as it tends to amplifier the noisy gearbox along your antenna shaft for elevation. I replaced mine with GRBP rube and it made it a bit quieter that the aluminium. It also allowed me to put my beams mid-boom and not have the pole interfere with my signal. I will try to find a the disassembly guide I use and post it here. Good luck 73 de Spence M0STO

There is no problem with the control-box, the problem is the 500 Ohm-potentiometer inside the rotator, which is known to give bad contact after many years of operation. You can order a new pot at "UKW-Berichte", maybe also WIMO in Germany. 73, Othmar, OE1SOW

Question: If I try to implement K3NG's code and schematics from his Github page as is, will it work, or there are initial changes that have to made to the code? Answer: No! the code is not plug and play. You need to uncomment some parts that are not relevant to you. Mostly the different controller interfaces. I use the Yaesu G232 code so uncomment that and comment the other interfaces such as Easy Rotator. Then there are various others tweaks to tell the software what your using eg: 360 degree or 450 degree stop. If you go to the K3NG website it explains what parts to comment out and what parts to keep and more important how to set it up and calibrate.I have kept with a code that works for me and its quite old because newer versions use tracking with Honeywell sensors etc. I don't need that level of accuracy.
