Onde posso adquirir peças para torno MYford

My backgear lever will not move like in this video. Mine will only move 1/8", and wont turn, and will not allow by backgear to engage. Any ideas?
@seaco33 Жыл бұрын
If you mean the outer lever, the ball pulls out and lifts, you have to sometimes turn the chuck a little to get the gears to mesh.

motor sounds noisy also...mine is much quieter than that...switch off when changing over... like someone said previously..

I'm writing this more as a precaution to others that might watch your video as I believe that by now you would have figured that the noise is perfectly normal... but please whenever you have to change you back gear or switch the position of the belt on the drive pulley please switch of the lathe motor... if your clutch fails you can loose fingers or even worse..

Sounds like straight cut gear chatter.

its 3 gears driving... the sound ... sounds normal to me... and me am engine fitter ! Nice lathe ( Grease ) :-)

It will be quieter under load but you can adjust the backlash by loosening the two grub screws in the handle and turning the eccentric to tune for minimum noise with minimum backlash.

The backgearing on most lathes are noisy whilst engaged as there's contact between straight cut gears! Helical gearing is much smoother and quieter but because the teeth angled, linear thrust is imparted.. I've not set my ML-7 up yet but I know my old Faircut is quite noisy like this when using the backgear ;) :)

I'm afraid it comes with the territory when you have all those extra gears lit, what you hear is gear lash, were you cutting the majority of it will be gone.

Backgear will rattle BUT more importantly it should ONLY be used on the lowest drive speed from the motor.

Thanks for the reply this vid is about two years old now and I've learnt a lot more about my Myford I have added thick grease and your right it does help but still sounds agricultural in comparison to the rest of the lathe but is very handy when reaming etc!

I've had my lathe 20 years and it's always made that noise. These are spur type gears which are very efficient at transmitting power and easy to engage and disengage but do tend to be rattley. Hypoid gears such as those found in car gearboxes are quieter but slightly less efficient due to the side thrust produced and the high level of precesion they require is deemed unnecassry in a lathe.

clean and examine the gears, then adjust them. Get some Vactra No. 2. There is one nipple in the gearing. Not sure about the one for the headstock. It should NOT make that noise. I would make sure there are no dented, broken or cracked gears, missing teeth Also run backgear in a slower speed.

@fkarno No nipple by the chuck that I can see?

@Xldevil I am getting so many varying opinions on this I'm really not sure now, the gears seem to work ok but do seem noisy? Maybe this is fine I haven't had much luck when contacting Myford themselves.

Hi Thankyou for the comment the scape is made from smallish rocks arranged...

Hello. My Super 7´s backgear makes almost the same noise,the Myford of a friend does the same..Don´t worry,I´m pretty sure that´s how it should sound. Ralph

spandit I'm using the faster speed in the video... fkarno I have seen the nipple by the large gear but not by the chuck I will have to look!
@fkarno14 жыл бұрын
Have you spotted the oil nipples inside the largest gear and in the front of the headstock, hidden by the chuck?
@crefmag14 жыл бұрын
I'd comment that you are running the lathe pretty fast - which V are you using on the motor/clutch pulleys?
@replayuk15 жыл бұрын
Check the teeth on the gears, i had same problem a long time ago on a different lathe; it all same down to a missing tooth on the gear. I also have the myford seven, and nope thats not a noise it should be making ata all. Replay
@Aitchgee15 жыл бұрын
Have you fixed this yet? If not, can you see if the noise is the same when you are taking a cut using the backgear? It may be that the gears simply chatter a bit when there's no load.
@metalworker00715 жыл бұрын
there should be some adjustment .. the adjustment is for how close the back gears contact each other.. soon as you get this right it should quieten right down. so you have to experiment with this clearance until you achieves the quietest running. all the best.markj

brwinks I have just recieved some Mobil Vactra No2 and to be honest it seems a bit thin not sticky, have I bought the right stuff?
@seaco3315 жыл бұрын
Hi brwinks Thanks for the info I am going to get some Vactra from ebay, I'm just glad it's not a problem with the lathe. "Phew"
@brwinks15 жыл бұрын
I know the noise, I run a similar lathe, a Boxford. You need Mobil Vactra oil, a sticky oil that sticks well to moving gears without being thrown off. Just one squirt from a "glocca-glocca" can will reduce the rumbling to a happy clicking sound. Beware running dry will wear the gears.

Spandit Thanks mate sorry I didn't explain to well I know it's not for grease it's just weird they have used that system... Ah! so it seems that it may be normal after all that's great news and thankyou again for taking the trouble to look for me!
@crefmag15 жыл бұрын
Don't use grease! Mine make a similar noise to yours
@seaco3315 жыл бұрын
The oil levels seem ok is there an oil nipple or pot dedicated to the backgears? also I've got to get an oiler unusual in that the nipples look as though they are for grease...
@seaco3315 жыл бұрын
Thanks Spandit any help appreciated, I'm going to get a segmented belt but didn't realise how pricey they were!
@crefmag15 жыл бұрын
Are your oils up to level? I'll just run into the workshop and see if mine makes a similar noise By the way, I bought some of that segmented belt for mine - much quieter than the solid V-belt

This is my Super 7, Just learn't what the backgear lever does and unfortunately I'm getting a strange noise from the gearing when it's running, I'm new to using lathes and I'm wondering if the sound it's making is normal, any help really appreciated? You will obviously need your sound on for this one!
