Accidentally took the shifter out in 1st gear. How tf do I get it back in neutral now?
@AKJeeper11 күн бұрын
@@TristaNnFTW Pretty simple, thankfully. Push the clutch pedal in (chock wheels or use the parking brake!), use a flat head screwdriver to move/leverage the fork in the transmission to the neutral position. It’s generally the opposite direction than the shifter itself would move (left and up for first gear on the shifter would be the right fork in the down position in the transmission). It shouldn’t take much force to do. Both forks should line up and form a [] opening and vehicle should be free to roll if it’s in neutral. Hopefully I’ve explained this well enough…

I had the exact same issue but I could not get my drive shaft to budge a fraction of an inch, started thinking maybe the desert runner edition does not have the slip yoke? It's manual but also my driveshaft don't turn by hand when in neutral like this Frontier does, there must be a difference. Anyways it's no bother because I just screwed all of the bolts back on and "replenished" the old rubber bearing with new rubber out of a squeeze tube. Took it for a spin and absolutely no vibration and no clanking when shifting gears. Drives like a dream now. If my rubber does wear out then I'll just squeeze some more in. Fixed it without the hassle. And my rubber bearing is twenty five years old and I live in a dry area.

@@noahback4936 If your truck didn’t already have a hood switch, the wiring for the hood switch is normally plugged into a blank spot on or near the coolant bottle. @AKJeeper23 күн бұрын
@@noahback4936 the truck came with a hood switch but doesn’t have wiring hooked up to it? Sounds like someone may have unplugged it - I would dig around to see if you could find the plug for it. I’ve never come across an instance where a factory fitted switch wasn’t connected. On trucks that did not come with the switch, it would be dummy plugged next to the coolant bottle. There’s ways to bypass it, but I definitely don’t recommend it for safety reasons, and I would have to dig into a wiring schematic to find the best place to do so.

I have a slightly off topic question. What is the name of that metal bracket looking thing that the shifter is connected to at the end?
@AKJeeper22 күн бұрын
I'm not quite sure what you're referring to. The shifter is bolted on to the shifter assembly, which is part of the steering column. The shift interlock is also in the area, this item prevents the shifter from being shifted out of Park unless the ignition is on and the brake pedal is depressed.
@HazharH21 күн бұрын
I tried searching online for that name, and it wouldn't give the same part. This part that I have, broke off and became loose after trying to shift into park during a snow day. I had forced it into park while the transmission linkage was frozen in snow. Currently, the truck goes into park without a problem. However, the park light indicator does not illuminate.
@AKJeeper Thank you sir, the part that I mentioned is on there.

I appreciate the video you did; it helped me install the same kit within my used 2013 F150. The second key from the remote start kit will start the vehicle but not lock/unlock it. The dealer speculated that I exceeded the key limit and recommended coming in to have them erase and program the keys. When I purchased this truck, it only came with one key ( w/fob). I went to my local Ace hardware store to have them add another key so I would have two keys to program the remote start keys within the kit. I have the two-month free trial of Forscan and know there is a process within Forscan called PATS programming; this is where you can erase and reprogram keys. I haven't tried this yet. Do you see any reason why this wouldn't work?
@AKJeeperАй бұрын
@@user-Mark_Anthony I have a video of doing something similar with a Ford Escape and ForScan. In this case, the customer lost all keys. I erased all keys and then programmed two new keys with ForScan. kzbin.info/www/bejne/nHWqkHaqo9tnb5osi=zl-GohJZYZthfd79 Be sure to have a battery maintainer plugged into the truck while doing this. I’m not entirely sure if Fords will allow keys which have already been programmed to be re-programmed in this manner. You might have to get two fresh virgin keys prior to using this feature in FORScan.
@user-Mark_AnthonyАй бұрын
@@AKJeeper Thank you for the quick reply and the video. In theory, Forscan PATS programming should erase all know keys (the 4 keys I have) and I should be able to reprogram them or at least that is what I thought this program would do. Thanks again.
@AKJeeperАй бұрын
@@user-Mark_Anthony My concern is that if Ford does not allow a “used” key to be reprogrammed, and you erase all known keys - you could wind up in a situation where none of your keys will work. That’s one reason I suggested having two fresh keys just in case. Some vehicles like my Jeep will allow reuse of old keys during an “erase all” procedure, so long as they are immediately reprogrammed during the same procedure. As with anything ForScan - everything is at your own risk. I’ve found some bugs with the software over the years, but it is still amazing in what it can do and well worth the cost.

What a horrible place to situate the thermostat! In the history of my changing out the thermostat on other cars, including Toyota, I have never come across a poorer design than this one. To move the serpentine belt and loosen the alternator would not be bad except that it's a serpentine belt and not a singular alternator belt. I miss the good old days of two or three belts. You know what you are dealing with when you have the belts separated.
@AKJeeper22 күн бұрын
I agree. This is far from an ideal place to put a thermostat! Unfortunately, I have worked on worse. I just find it funny that on my 2022 Dodge Charger with a 6.4L V8 engine, the thermostat and water pump are front and center in the engine compartment. Both are easy to access and have no obstructions. I could probably replace both on that vehicle in 15 minutes (assuming the engine wasn't hot).

@AKJeeperАй бұрын
It's perfectly acceptable to fill the oil level anywhere between the two marks, up to and including the full mark. You do not want to go over the full mark on the dipstick. These engines have a tendency to burn a little oil between oil changes. I will fill the oil right to the full mark (and not any higher) to give the best chance that my customers' vehicles stay between the two marks on the dipstick between oil changes.
