LOL...bat shit crazy! I wouldn't bother shoveling that snow. It will melt away quick. Sending out snow plows and salt only ruins the roads. Just tell people to stay home or drive very slow. As you can see the roads are the first to melt.
@TimsSchoolOfFish2 күн бұрын
We don’t have plows or salt trucks anyway. Roads and everything was closed for a week until it melted. Thank you my friend 👊🏻

Really fascinating history. What does Queen have to do with GEC? And why are all these companies centered around the same little town in Pennsylvania? I’d love to understand why things are the way they are.
@TimsSchoolOfFish2 күн бұрын
It was a direct result of the New York & Lake Eerie Railroad as well as Great Lakes shipping lanes. The railroad led to Southwest NY and Northwest Pennsylvania becoming an industrial center, and a place where steel and aluminum were manufactured. The industrialization led to a huge influx of people to work in industry, which led to a huge demand for cutlery and edged tools. By the turn of the 20th century there were nearly 100 cutlery companies within a 100 mile radius of the Little Valley, NY area. Many of the USA cutlery companies have ties to one another in some way since most started in this area and gave rise to new companies in the same area. Many of them remain in that area today. It’s very interesting stuff… it is to me anyway 😆 Thank you my friend 👊🏻

On the blade is Ryder spelled with an “i”?
@TimsSchoolOfFish4 күн бұрын
They were originally Rough Rider. Then switched to Rough Ryder. Starting in late 2024 they stated that they were going back to Rough Rider, but that some knives would still be spelled with a “y” until all machining had been retooled.

After years of collecting super 'duper' steel knives I have regressed to the older steels like 1095, 5160, 154CM, D2, 440C and 420HC because they work and are easy to put a razor edge on in the field or at camp. I have a lot of old Ontario's including the RD line and TAK1 line. But I recently scored a very good condition 165OT and I dig the 1095 steel, shape and look of this knife. Mine doesn't have the Walden stamp so it must be from the 70's or 80's. Now I'm looking for a first knife to give to my son for camping this summer and trying to deduce what would be the criteria for this. He has small hands because he's 8 so the handle has to be on the smaller side, in the 4" blade size with saber or full flat grind, has to have a good guard on it, good steel, well under $100 and I will NEVER purchase anything from Communist china so it has to be USA made preferably. Was looking at the Ontario Morta but the 1095 version seems to be discontinued. The TAK1 will be too heavy. ESEE and KaBar does make some of their smaller blades that meet this criteria. Mora might have some options. But then I thought about this 165OT. It would seem like a great first knife that will last his entire life and beyond to his kids. Might have to find an older USA 165OT like mine to gift him. Just have to put a good edge on it.
@TimsSchoolOfFish4 күн бұрын
Agreed! Esee 4 would be a good choice. Thank you my friend 👊🏻
