I inherited a dutch wall clock similar to this and am trying to get it running. The difference in mine that I can see comparing this to yours is that there is no access to the pendulum from front (like the pencil opening you show). Anyhow, I hooked the unit to the wall and gently swayed the unit to get the pendulum running but it eventually comes to a stop & I don't see any advancement in the 2nd hand? Not sure what is wrong?

Hi! I just bought one and I am fascinated by how it works. I wonder if you could please tell me what the short string on the left of the clock is for? Would it be to stop it from chiming? or is it supposed to do anything at all? These clocks are adorable and beautiful! Much appreciated!
@PerfectTimingCanada6 ай бұрын
Hi, Thanks for contacting us. The string would usually be for pulling the hammers back, preventing them from hitting the rods and making sounds. The wheels will still turn and make noises. Enjoy your new purchase and remember that you will get used to the chimes in about two weeks... that's about when negative imprinting takes effect.

@@PerfectTimingCanada Thank you! The sound is so pleasing that every hour I go where the clock is at and wait for it to sound. I come back later on the hour and listen to it again!... Best regards!

So I inherited my moms. And she used to transport that thing BACK to holland when we would visit not knowing how to take care of it or get it running. Now this clock would not run for years or months and then all of a sudden “ding dong”….out of nowhere the clock would start running.😮 Does this happen? It did it to me. I have had it hanging on my wall a little over a year just for looks and at 3am…it started running like it had been running the whole time… my mom would tell us kids that it was her mother or uncle who had passed, letting her know they are keeping an eye on her.😊
@PerfectTimingCanada7 ай бұрын
Thank you for sharing that story. Clocks often have their mysterious moments especially when the owner of the clock passes and the next generation takes ownership. Dutch wall clocks are notoriously sensitive to slight changes of the angle it sits on the wall side to side, or tipped forward or backward on the wall screw. They react by stopping (or starting) unexpectedly. Having said that, I rather think having the presence of your mother signaling that she cares and is watching over you is much more important to your soul, and family stories about your special heirloom clock 😊

Hello, Thanks for the question. It sounds like the chime side mainspring is broken, or perhaps the click spring may be broken. You will need to find a clock repair person in your area to have the parts replaced and the mechanism serviced. Hope this helps.

It depends on the clock. If yours is identical to this one (mechanical, wind up, german made 1940's) then the answer to your question is no.

I HAVE AN ANKER WESTMINSTER 3 tune WALLCLOCK wind-up clock purchased in 1981, possible 1500 model? WITH 4 hammers on one side and 8 hammers with two blocking levers when moving the clock and two chime braces holders. QUESTION - IS THERE A THIRD BLOCKING LEVER FOR THE 8 HAMMERS THEY DON'T MOVE ANYMORE AFTER CLOCK BEEN MOVED FOR CLEANING and the 4 hammers only move and chime one time on the hour than they use to chiming the hour of the day.
@PerfectTimingCanada Жыл бұрын
Hi there, Check the lever that changes the chimes. Is it set on Silent or in between two chimes?
@davidwhite4483 Жыл бұрын
@PerfectTimingCanada Ran the tune level back and force and stop. Feeling level on music chime. At 8, I got one dong. Counter-clock moved the hour hand back to 1. Moved the minute forward to 2, no dong - moved forward again to 3, got one dong - moved forward to 4, no dong - moved forward to 5, one dong - moved to 6, no dong - moved to 7, one dong - moved back to 8, no dong this time. Music plays on the quarter hour sometimes but does plays on the hour. This is driving me to a cuckoo Clock!

This may be a dumb question but I am a complete novice and just learning- If you don't wind the clock with the keys- is it possible for the clock to run and keep time? I only ask because I inherited a German wall clock - it hasn't been removed from the moving box for about 45 years- we can't find the key to wind it- but hung it up on the wall, set the time and started the pendulum- it's been keeping perfect time now for over a week... weirdest thing to me- but maybe there is something I don't know???
@PerfectTimingCanada Жыл бұрын
Hi, thanks for your question, it is something many people have wondered about. Most likely your clock was fully wound when it was put away. Some German made clocks run for two weeks on a wind. I would seriously consider not running the clock since there would be no oil in it after 45 years in storage. Running your clock without oil will cause it to wear out very quickly. My recommendation is for you to have the mechanism inspected by a professional as soon as possible. Today, German made clocks are very expensive to replace.
@pgnault2699 Жыл бұрын
@Perfect Timing thank you so much for that information- I feel silly I didn't think of that....I immediately stopped the clock for now- I am unsure of the proper way to oil it- so I need to figure that out- thank you!!

How to prevent the clock from making sound?
@perfecttiminginc35982 жыл бұрын
Unless the clock has a special lever with which to stop the chiming or striking, then there is no guaranteed mechanically safe way to stop it. After a few weeks, our brains get used to it , and tend to ignore routine sounds Or if your clock has a pendulum, stop the pendulum at bedtime. and start up the clock in the morning

Many thanks for your marvelous instructions. We had our Dutch atlas clock overhauled at considerable expense. The clock maker didn't give instructions on mounting on the wall. The clock was my mother's and had a lot of sentimental value. After bringing it home it has not gone as it should. Thanks to you we have made it level and with fingers crossed we hope it is now working well.
