A stupendous performance. I just rewatched Closer after 20 years and it holds up. After the script. Clive is the best thing in it.

I like how Queen Mary, although old-fashioned and formal and Victorian with her fellow aristocrats, is kind and friendly to the working class and talks to them on their level. That’s exactly what she did in real life, apparently

Fun fact: Clark Gable gave the Oscar he received at the 7th Academy Awards to a child who admired it, telling him it was the winning of the statue that had mattered, not owning it. That same child returned the Oscar to Kay Williams after Clark died of a heart attack.

This scene always bugged me, the nurse obviously said "The Queen is here your majesty" to begin with. Oueen Mary could've saved the condescending speech. 😂

It's there to clarify this for the audience, and she was very nice while explaining.

No it’s bad grammar she’s said the queen is here, so queen Mary pointed out which one there are 3. So she should have said thee Queen is here correct English.

@KeriRhodes-mn9te3 ай бұрын
I just adore Agnes Moorehead!!!!! She was just marvelous at any role she played. Hollywood really did her a disservice, by not letting her play more leading roles. An actress or actor should not be based on their looks, (although Agnes was breathtakingly beautiful) it should be based on their ability to act.. and boy could Agnes act!! She could be 100% actress on screen without robbing someone else of their screen moment. 💜 you dear Agnes!! ⚘️

Some may not know but it was Queen Mary of Teck who ordered the renovation of Catherine of Aragon's tomb. When she died Henry VIII gave her the burial fit for a dowager Princess of Wales but Queen Mary ordered the renovation and the inscription "Katharine Queen of England."

The Postman has got to be one of the most obscure and forgotten Oscar nominees of the last 30 years. It got nominated in so many major categories (Picture, Director, Actor, Screenplay) yet I've never heard anyone talk about it since. I don't even think it's been released on blu-ray in America. It's crazy that Heat didn't get a single nomination that year and Apollo 13 got snubbed in Best Director. And why did this happen? Because of Harvey Weinstein. He ran the Oscar campaign for the Postman.
@donkeygospel66 ай бұрын
Yes good points. And SO many other films that Weinstein/Miramax pushed into the Oscar race have left no cultural imprint: The Cider House Rules and Chocolat for example.
