I know this seems excessive, but keep in mind that girls used to be taught this by their mothers over a period of several years as well as possibly taking school classes that went over homemaking as well. Before having children, it was easy to manage my home without a system. Even when my children were little, it was still doable. Last year was the first school year where all my children were school age, so I was doing schooling with all of them, and everything else in the home and our business got shoved to the side. It became clear to me that I couldn’t do it without a system in place, so here I am trying to really get established with the Fly Lady app this summer so that we have some sanity when we start our new school year here pretty soon.

I used to use fly lady but I work full time and it's too much to do each day. I much prefer Tomm.

She also has a paid Tomm Rocks area where she has podcasts that you can listen to with music which talk you through what you need to do next with a timer. She has a playlist for the different areas and she's also created level 1 for each day which are slightly different each day and another playlist for level 1 that includes kitchen each day instead of the bathroom

An easier Martha Stewart way for me is to fold in half first, then in thirds, then in half again. The end result is the same. That way I’m not trying to reach out & across to line up folding a long towel into thirds. Saves my shoulders too.

Keep a notebook as you clean each room so if you notice something that needs attention or fixing, you can address it the next time you focus on that zone.😊

I forgot to add the monthly "food inventory" needed for meal planning. Pantry, freezers, and refrigerator. Make a list of foods that need to be used up immediately to avoid waste😊

I found flylady in 2007, she was a treasure in my life and still is! I switch this a bit, i do meal planning and prep in the AM because i often use a crock pot and need the extra cook time. I also add a "weather watch" before laying out the next days outfit in the PM because i live in new england.😊😊❤❤

Most homes in the uk only have 1 bathroom and maybe have an extra wc downstairs. Houses are smaller then amercan houses

I swapped bathrooms for kitchen on the Level 2 jobs. It’s easier for me to clean the bathrooms weekly, and add a quick extra kitchen chore each day as I wash the dishes instead of trying to keep up the bathrooms every day. I do swipe the toilets every night before I shower since it only takes 2 minutes.

That's a fantastic idea! I've always struggled with bathrooms on TOMM and FL. I need a dedicated day for them. And I agree, the daily upkeep for the kitchen makes it easier to add extra tasks. After trying so many cleaning systems I'm starting to have a unique hybrid system that works best for me 😊

Hey Stephanie, if you clean the entire house on Mon what do you do the other days in the afternoon?

Hope you don mind me answering. The Flylady system doesn't advocate cleaning the entire house, just a quick upkeep clean or "blessing". But even if you DID clean it all, the other parts of the system are Plan and Play where you plan out what you're gonna do for the next week, including housework, meal planning and budgeting. Some people like to pay their bills here too. Then on Wednesday, you pick a task you've been procrastinating on and get it done. Thursday is errand day, so you do your grocery shopping plus any other things you need to leave home for. Appointments, library, chemist, whatever. Makes sense to do all your running around on the same day. Friday is Car and Purse day. You get all the junk out of your car, and out of your purse / handbag, at minimum. You can do more if you want, like cleaning the car, etc. It's also "date night", which if you're into such things, you will have organised on Tuesday (plan and play). Then you have the weekend to enjoy your home, family and yourself. (still doing your routines, though.) Also, you add to each day (Tue-Fri) 15 min decluttering or cleaning in one zone in your house. Hope this helps.

I do a mix of flylady and clean mama. I do clean mama weekly schedule (but no deep cleaning in those areas). Then I do my zone cleaning for 15 mins a day. I feel like this way nothing gets missed. I wasn’t a fan of fly lady’s weekly schedule.
