Got about three different systems I could use an OS like this on, both are older dual cores that mint treats okay at best. I'll be finally able to use these systems again for the stuff I want to do with older hardware (youtube/light web and dvd playback). Thanks a ton for going over it dude!

Just dual booted into my system. I really like it!

One thing I didn't like... was their i3 install option. It was just a completely 'bare' and basic/raw i3. Nothing pre-configured. No Gaps. No tool bars. Nothing.

Hey man, new subscriber. I’ve been using Linux since the 90’s. I’ve used many distros but Debian has been my main one in recent years. I’m with you… chatGPT and any other AI crap doesn’t belong in Linux.

Garuda is what I use and I've been on it for about a month now and I absolutely love it !! Those colorful icons, those wiggly windows, and how smooth my almost 5 year old laptop runs now and it's amazing on my battery where as windows was knocking me down to 0% a few times during the year and had me chugging just with photoshop and filmora standing and would be 2 seconds from lift off when I render a video o-o

This is a very great distro. I've been using it for a few days, but it is solid, fast, smooth, very very stable even tho it is rolling release. Discord got an update? sudo eopkg upgrade and it is up to date. Very good. Love this distro

This distro is hot garbage. This is the most unstable linux disro ever released. It is irresponsible to claim this isn't anything other than an experimental distro.

Yeah, I'm definitely not down with the "love it or leave it" attitude regarding Linux. If newbies with a fresh perspective see problems with Linux, they should definitely point them out. The Linux package manager system is fundamentally broken when it comes to third party application software. Application software should not be maintained in OS repos AT ALL. You brought up Windows DLL Hell, and that's a very good example, because it's the same problem as Dependency Hell on Linux. The difference is that Microsoft fixed DLL Hell 20+ years ago with a lot of virtualization technology that is transparent to the user, but Dependency Hell on Linux is only just starting to get fixed with Flatpaks, Snaps, and AppImages. A lot of the reason people like package managers on Linux is because of how easy it is to install apps using the command line. But, that loses its appeal when the repo version of the app is six years old, which I recently ran into. Then, it suddenly becomes a PITA to install a recent version. Windows' built-in package manager also makes it easy to install apps from the command line. But, it doesn't grab a stale version from some Windows repo. It grabs the latest version directly from the publisher. And, you know it isn't going to screw up your system because Windows fixed DLL Hell decades ago. Linux distros should just stop putting third party apps in their repos. It makes no sense. It should grab them directly from the publisher and install them using some kind of virtualization technology such as Flatpak or whatever. That's the right way to do things. The way most Linux distros do it now is the wrong way.

"Just released a new version of their OS" with a rolling release distro...? I prefer vanilla Arch, but I do find the project very interesting, I hope the distro catches on. It is certainly better than Manjaro, and more than just a basic Arch GUI installer with collection of packages to install by default.

You haven't posted in 11 months.. but I wish you would come back. I just found your channel and your reviews are great.. I'd love to pick your bra^n; which would you recommend after all your experience with them: Regata, Nobara, Garuda, or Pica? They all four look very good to me. I like the way Regata looks the best, but you just showed me how to make Garuda look like it, so I'm leaning towards Garuda now... I do like Nobara too though. Which do you recommend?
@calholli2 ай бұрын
Regata looks really good too. but I haven't tried it. Nobara also.. Those two and garuda are all in the same class IMO.. They are all gaming oriented and offer a lot of preinstalled stuff; super easy for a noob

I think that if it's downloaded trough the package manager or a checkbox upon installation of the desktop would be good. But anything like it being installed by default is not good.

Not exactly a perfect experience for me. Don't get me wrong, I love the interface. But the installer for this consistently crashes on my 5900X/ RTX3060TI rig. Checksum fine, installed fine on two other machines. SAME RIG boots on a transplanted install from a 1700 / GTX1650 setup, and swapping my RTX3060TI for the 1700's GTX1650 allows the installer to run, so the problem seems to be with identifying my GPU (an LHR Asus KO version). However, other issues with DVD playback (drive can be seen, but not mounted) and OpenRGB failing to see my Corsair setup are also a problem. Mint Cinnamon solved the DVD playback problem, but I prefer Tuxedo's interface. It's quite likely that Cinnamon is substituting GTX1650 drivers or using generic Nvidia drivers, which means my RTX3060TI is not being fully utilized.

Linux was just too complicated compared to Windows; Windows is insanely easy to install and use; it's simplicity is incomparable vs linux. Linux distros/ISO are greast for neutralizing thumb drives though. Linux is more like a pre-Windows OS from the 80s.
