Mine hit me while I was in hospital recovering from a stem cell transplant. Pain was intense at first but eventually died down. What has remained is muscle weakness - can't lift weights above my head from certain angles. Neurologist diagnosed this as Parsonage Turner/brachial neuritis. Waiting to get into PT now.

Hello, my son had second seizure this week after 3 months. Neurologist recommended take a meds. If I decide to not take a meds, could this be a risk of something risky and dangerous in future?? thanks for respond.
@DrSimonFreilich11 күн бұрын
Dear Michal, Yes. Seizures come with a risk of harm and the benefit of anti seizure medication is to reduce the chances of them occurring. There may also be a benefit in terms of kids' school performance too. Bw Simon

@DrSimonFreilich thank you for respond. What about side effects of meds? Changing personality like agresivity or focusing at school? If child will outgrown from it... can it return in adulthood??

My personal experience is that CECTS is a complex condition with quite a spectrum, and there's no one size fits all answer, even to relatively reasonable questions such as these. You're going to have to speak it through with the Neurologist, and trust their opinion. Bw Simon

I watched your video a few years ago when my teenage son whom carries microdeletion 16p13.11 started having myclonic jerks. He started his journey however when he was actually about 5 or 6 with staring seizures. Since watching your video, I have cautiously watched him, waiting to see it he develops tonic clonic also. Sure enough, about 2 months ago, he had a gran mal. I am so glad I was warned, ready, and knew it was possibly coming. he is already on Keppra, but we have an apt with neuro to see if there will be med changes. Thank you for making such a helpful and informative video.

What is the different between photo-convulsive , photo-paroxysmal , photosensitive from EEG point of view ?
@DrSimonFreilichАй бұрын
Hi, good question Photo-paroxysmal responses (PPR) are the abnormal responses we see on the EEG (i.e. spike/waves etc) in response to the flashing light. These can be graded in severity and association to strobe induced seizures (i.e. from occipitial only, through to generalised discharges). Photo-sensitivity is a term that relates to the subsequent epilepsy diagnosis i.e. because we have demonstrated a sufficient PPR, the patient has Photo-sensitivity. Photo-convulsive is an old term (IFCN Handbook 2nd Edition) that is synonymous with, and has been replaced by the new term Photo-Paroxysmal response. There is also Photo-myoclonic (old term)/Photo-myogenic(new term) responses which are spikes arising from muscle artefacts in the head and face, caused by the flashes irritating the subject being recorded. Hope that helps Bw Simon

My neurologist says “ it’s not CIDP because CIDP is symmetrical “ ….find a new neurologist??? It’s been almost 3 months of poly neuropathy
@DrSimonFreilich2 ай бұрын
Hi, I can't comment specifically but most inflammatory driven processes tend to be asymmetrical and CIDP is no exception to that. Whether or not CIDP is a possibility in your specific situation, depends on your clinical context and investigations as guided by your Neurology team. Bw Simon

One thing I’m still not understanding after your video and doing a lot of research is what these seizures look like to others witnessing it happening
@DrSimonFreilich2 ай бұрын
Hi, the expression of the seizures induced by photic stimuli is actually quite variable. Most often generalised tonic clonic seizures, but can be a blank stare induced in those with Absence type epilepsy, there may be eyelid and neck jerking in a Jeavons Syndrome epilepsy, and there are other types of manifestations too. Bw Simon

Hello Doctor 🙏 can you tell me what interference pattern means.... This was quite sometime ago, but (18 year's infact) MY REAL QUESTION - is why mention it on the report?! If it doesn't mean anything... But now I HAVE tested positive for Lupus and a mixed connective tissue disease 😮... I fall a lot, rigidity of muscles, little strength... Any advice please especially about the I.P. regards J🙏🙏🙏
@DrSimonFreilich2 ай бұрын
Interference patterns have meaning to us in the profession. They reflect the amount of detected electrical activity on the EMG screen. For us, the description allows us to see in our minds eye what the muscles were doing during your test. To you as a patient, of course it means very little, but you could say that about pretty much any technical aspects of any investigation. Best wishes and only good health, Simon

So if you had stress, burnout and health anxiety were there before like 6 month. We need to focus on that to calm down the Nerv system :) What period of control do you suggest with a neurologist ? I stopped mine after 2 years... I focus now on anxiety and trauma Therapie . I see many twitchers who had a bad break up or lost beloved ones some months before bfs started. Also vaccines And viruses are very common some weeks before it started

I take a puff from a vape pen of thc/cbd 1 to 1 ratio and it works great. Last night I had RLS extremely bad, took a hit and the relief was immediate. I dont know if other ratios work or gummies, have not tried them. 1 to 1 ratio does and does not blast me. I've been treating it for about a year now , it works for me, its not a placebo effect, its life changing.
