Mon ophtalmologiste m'a conseillé de ne pas laisser trainer la cataracte car l'opération devient difficile. Ma question est : Puis-je faire l'opération de cataracte avec une tension d'oeil 15 ? En général, il est important d'essayer d'éviter toute chirurgie si la vision peut être corrigée par des lunettes ou des lentilles de contact parce que toute chirurgie porte avec elle au moins certains risques. Le laser pour la cataracte est différent de LASIK ou laser cornéen réfractive. LASIK rend le calcul ou le choix de lentille au temps de la chirurgie de la cataracte plus difficile. En présence d'une grande cataracte, LASIK ne devrait pas être fait. Au lieu de cela, la chirurgie de la cataracte peut être fait, soit par laser ou par ultrasons. Le standard en 2016 est de faire l'operation avec ultrasons. Même la chirurgie de la cataracte assistée par laser implique une certaine utilisation de l'ultrasons. Les deux méthodes de chirurgie de la cataracte sont excellents et on ne devrait pas sentir la pression pour choisir une méthode sur l'autre parce que le soutien scientifique pour les deux est excellent.

I have to have this done soon and I am really nervous about this whole thing. I know I have to do it but looks scary. Already have a bleb on my left eye been on drops for years and nothing is working to keep the IOP down so now surgery. I have my first appointment to set everything up in Dallas with the Glaucoma Center there...on Sept 28th unless they have someone cancel I am on the list to call first. No doubt I need this but still scary looking. They caught the glaucoma in my mid 20's and now I am in my 60's...so 40 years of it or longer...

j'ai été opérée de la cataracte ce mois ci des 2 yeux.tout c'est bien passé mais le 1er oeil ,le droit j'ai mis 3 jours pour voir correctement.l'oeil gauche opérer ce jeudi j'y ai vu distinctement après avoir enlever la coquille,soit le lendemain .adieu lentilles que je portais depuis 79 soit 37 ans déja.et lunettes de vue que j'avais depuis l'age de 6 ans.de plus cette opération m'a permis de retrouver la vue j'avais moins 9 dans un oeil et moins 9.50 dans l'autre.la vidéo fait un peu peur,quand on y regarde mais nous apprends tellement de chose.merci

un œil couvert par catarathe globale et pendant plusieurs année peut on enlever la catarathe et est ce que l'œil retrouvera la vue meme si elle etait couvert pendant plusieur année merci de me repondre

It is quite normal for the laser method of cataract surgery to make a red ring around the eye as the suction that we use to hold the eye in position leaves a "hickey"! This does not affect the results at all as excellent vision is quite common the next day after surgery, usually faster than would be seen without the laser.

Pour répondre aux questions, le patient n'est pas endormi. L'anesthesie est locale par les gouttes et un gel. Il n'y a pas de douleur.

How you sure that iol goes to the bag ? In these cases I always doubt IOL goes to sulcus, and i strecth iris with a manupilator and under the iris saw that it finds a way to go bag. Are there useful tips about that point...thanks...

I like this. I like the fact that you don't do any extra moves; ie: ring; hooks, or sphincterectomies. I put a video up and someone commented on why I didn't just put a ring or hooks in the eye. I explained that it wasn't a necessary step. Very good video.

Shawn, enjoyed your video. I've been using the visco canula to stabilize the globe when making the clear K incision for years; it's a great way to eliminate that extra step of .12 forceps; or wek, etc.. Now doing the capsulorhexis with my left hand would be basically impossible (for me that is). I think your hydration of the wound is an interesting, idea; going to try that. After making the switch to femto assisted cataract surgery with AK incision; I haven't implanted a toric in the last 6 months. Really like your videos. Thank. colbystewartmd.com

Thank you :) The anesthetic is a topical drop called Tetracaine and a topical gel called Lidocaine gel. If there is a history of an allergy to one agent, either product can be used alone and other agents can be substituted for them. Patients notice many bright colors and quickly get used to the bright light. They feel touch and lots of water that we use to wash and cool the eye but pain is, in my words, "forbidden". I always give more anesthetic if the patient isn't comfortable at any point.

For about 24 hours after surgery, there is usually a feeling of sand or something in the eye. There can be some pain but one or two Tylenol is all that is usually needed. About 50% of people don't feel a single thing at all. Another 49% feels some discomfort or some amount of mild pain. Only about 1% of people actually say that the operation really hurt. Even then, it is usually very brief and they often don't tell the doctor anything during surgery but will mention it the next day.

No, but it can feel like pressure. The patient feels 3 things: 1) the light is very bright 2) lots of water is used and so it feels wet 3) there can be some pressure which is very well tolerated. If there is any pain, the patient will say so and the doctor can give more drops or place an anesthetic agent directly into the eye that will stop it. If the lens is very hard or the surgery is complicated, it can be painful and so additional anesthetic is used, for sure.

is it hurt?

Yes, that's absolutely correct. This was only designed to work with soft cataracts. I will try to produce some videos for you of techniques that can be used in much harder cataracts.

in africa where I work...i get hard cataract with weak zonules...I suppose this technique can only work in soft cataracts..

It might be possible to get better vision in your right eye with a proper glasses correction and regular use of the vision over time. Doctors don't usually patch eyes after the age of 7. If the cataract was not cloudy within the first 6-12 months of life, the likelihood that your vision will improve is much higher. So, please don't be discouraged. Keep trying things like glasses and practice focusing on things near and far with the right eye. Best wishes!

As far as we know, the answer is no. Computers and reading don't seem to cause cataracts.

Your eyes are meant to be used such that movies, TV, computers, reading are all safe. Though, I guess that might also depend on what shows we watch! As far as science can determine, computer use does not increase the risk of cataract.

So scary! I imagine that is my eyes. I have a question, Doc. Is there any risk of getting a cataract if I stay in front of the Computer for a long period of time?

Surgery is only done once but if a "film" or "membrane" develops over the back of the lens that we insert, a painless laser is used to remove it. The film develops in 10-20% of completely routine cases, randomly, and really needs only be cleaned once in a lifetime. "Coke bottle" glasses resulted from not having the lenses we have today!

Hi, saw the video, amazing. Having my left eye done as I'm finding it hard to see road signs until right up to them. Surgery is scary though. Question? Has or can it be done more than once? I so wished my mother when she was alive could have had it done again, she had both eyes done at the same tme (mistake) she ended up having to wear "coke bottle " glass's. Thanks! The vacuum is linear (usually 550) and that's what allows it to come. When the cortex starts to move or flap around from gentle foot pressure on the vacuum pedal, kinetic energy is imparted to it. Given that bodies in motion tend to stay in motion and bodies at rest stay at rest, flooring the pedal allows the cortex to come before the capsule has a chance to react. Also, with the mouthpiece full, capsule isn't able to approach. Just physics!
