@245thegreat2 жыл бұрын
I'm guessing it's an age thing. These hifi came out in 2001 I believe. I think the ink has dried up inside, over a long period. You could search online, ebay for example, to find a replacement part. Unfortunately I don't own this hifi any longer, it was scrapped about 8 or 9 years ago when the cd player kept jamming. I'm not very good at repairs...

@245thegreat3 жыл бұрын
That's the same way I got into them funnily enough... and I too have a matching SB5 sub. I power it all with a 300wattx2 crown amp so no shortage of power 😁
@installedsound9063 жыл бұрын
@@245thegreat I remember them the most from the Meadowhall HMV in Sheffield. I drive the SB5 on a Sony TA-FE570 that is connected to sub line outs of the STR-DB1080 surround amp that drives the Control 5s as fronts and Control 1s as centre and surrounds. It does sound quite good.
@245thegreat3 жыл бұрын
@@installedsound906 How strange, I too am living in Sheffield, but have only been living here for 3 years. It was a local shopping centre that had a smaller HMV store from the early 90s that had 4 of them in their foyer. The rest were control 1s. Then Bluewater shopping centre in Kent opened in 1999 with a large HMV store and there were only control 5s probably about 12 or 14 of them. There was a very large store on Oxford Street in London that were plastered with them, but unfortunately that no longer exists. I've no doubt it sounds good on the Sony receiver but to get their true power use a power amp they'd surprise you what power they have.
@installedsound9063 жыл бұрын
@@245thegreat I use a pair on stands for live events/broadcasts on my online station, www.edgefm.uk - when I do that, I run them on a Cloud Electronics CX-A4 power amp (that's too made in Sheffield! They were the go to amp all the pubs used with the Wharfedale Programme 30s, or they used the CX-A6 which was the 6 channel version). On that, they really shine. Can get them to go really loud and clear. Hard to believe you can use them as PA speakers, monitors, surround sound, music listening, computer speakers etc.
@245thegreat3 жыл бұрын
@@installedsound906 yes they are definitely good all rounders. One day I'll look at getting a set of the control 10s or even a pair of control 12SR now they really are the daddy of the lot. They do come up for sale every so often but people usually want silly money for them and you then find out they are damaged and aren't worth the asking price. If you can find out what that screw size is it'd be a massive help. Regards.
