I'm guessing one of the traction motors on 360M burnt out, judging by how slowly the train was moving. The doors are held shut by compressed air, probably the same used for braking, which could be provided by the operational Comeng. Metro probably decided to run the service with the faulty Comeng as it was capable of operating safely under its own power and would have needed to be sent back to the depot anyway, and I don't think there are sidings nearby it could wait in until got towed back to the city by another train, plus Metro is slapped with hefty fines for cancelling a service.

I remember seeing a couple of these stabled at North Melbourne I think, right next to the Moonee Ponds creek, in 2013

The Metro Tunnel is on track to be completed by 2025 and it will have the Sunbury, Cranbourne and Pakenham Lines running through it. Also it will have direct airport connection via the Melbourne Airport Rail Link by 2029. There is also the Suburban Rail Loop which is a 90 km rail line from Cheltenham to Werribee via Melbourne Airport. It’s still 3 decades away from completion, but half of it from Cheltenham to Melbourne Airport will be underground with SRL driverless trains.

They already completed the Caulfield to Dandenong level crosssing removals as of 2018 and built 5 new stations with skyrail. The Cranbourne and Pakenham Lines will have no level crossings left by 2025 and I would really love to journey from Cranbourne or Pakenham to Flinders Street and back again with no level crossings left!
