I completely ignored Oingo Boingo in the 80s and 90s, while simultaneously delighting in themes from Pee Wee's Big Adventure, Beetlejuice, and many other Tim Burton films. Now, I finally recognize the genius of Danny Elfman during those early years, and the awesomeness of his band members. Truly an amazing, unique, awesome band. Danny Elfman will be remembered as one of the most creative musical geniuses of the 20th century, without doubt.
@jaysonb.6669Ай бұрын
Danny Elfman either built a time machine, discovered the fountain of youth in the Amazon Rainforest or is a vampire lol. One person cannot have that depth of musical talent, charisma & creativity. Not including the ability to put such amazing musicians around O.B. without the band imploding. Mind boggling. I think composing film soundtracks actually deprived of us his musical genius. Even if he records until 100, we're still going to miss out on brilliant material.

1:15 Danny actually joined in 1972. Richard wanted Danny there from the beginning, but when Richard founded the group, Danny was in Africa. About six months later, Danny would contract Malaria and was forced to return to the United States. It's true that Danny can play the violin and that playing violin is what got him into Le Grand Magic Circus in France with Richard, but Danny would join the Mystic Knights as the group's musical director, replacing future film director Ernie Fosselius. 3:50 "St. James Infirmary Blues" is a song the Mystic Knights had been doing since at least 1974, possibly even 1973. And the video clip shown is from December 1977, not 1978. 4:12 The video clip and promo photo shown are from 1978, not 1979. 6:50 The video clip is from 1980, not 1979. I'm not going to nitpick the whole video, I just wanted to correct a few things pertaining to the early days. A lot of information regarding the Mystic Knights (especially 1972-75) and the band's transition period (summer of 1979) is not widely available online or easy to find. Here's two full-length videos of the Mystic Knights from 1975 and 1977, respectively, that I've uploaded: kzbin.info/www/bejne/i6HNomSXhLeihLs

The gamelan percussion with masked players on various elevated levels with dry ice flowing mixed with the rock the and the Cab Calloway music plus the zaniness of Chedderania... WOW!
