I remember about 10 or 15 years ago there was some story about somebody winning against grandmasters with this weird king move. The theory is it's to break out of book early and prevent masters from relying on memory and force them to play the early game on skill. The theory the last time this came up was that Bobby Fischer was the person playing these unusual king moves anonymously online against GMs. Of course, that was just wishful thinking
