What I really like is that not only did you point out the parallels, you pointed out how MePhone4 can only operate within the same system his abuser does (Cobs' prized creations -> MePhone's winners, Cobs' tasks -> MePhone's challenges). He literally does not know anything else, and that could also explain why he was so drawn to reality TV, as he was already familiar with being rewarded based on "merit" and being given seemingly extremely difficult tasks to overcome. It depicts the cycle of abuse in a way that also applies outside of interpersonal relationships, and how a lot of us seek comfort in familiarity. Although MePhone shows more compassion than Cobs does, he still perpetuates the cycle to his contestants and assistants.
