Does it work well with QGIS? Can I simulate two different scenarios, such as the current situation and another with more trees? Does it show how the new trees influence the hydrology?
@i-TreeTools2 күн бұрын
Hi! You can use QGIS (or your preferred GIS) to preprocess your DEM files. And yes, you can compare different scenarios to model how land use changes affect hydrology. You can learn more here: www.itreetools.org/tools/research-suite/hydro-plus

Do you need to measure every tree in the area that you trying to assess?
@i-TreeTools7 ай бұрын
For i-Tree canopy, no tree measurements are needed. The methods rely on photointerpretation of aerial imagery. MyTree, i-Tree Planting and i-Tree Eco do require direct measurement of trees.

Hello. I have a question. I have collected samples for a country, not a city, and I would like to perform an analysis. Is it mandatory to input data based on the city in i-tree eco? If I want to input data at the country level and then perform the analysis, how should I proceed? I appreciate your response.
@i-TreeTools11 ай бұрын
Hi Lee, The benefits estimates provided by i-Tree Eco are informed by local weather and pollution data. If it is not important to you to have precise, localized estimates you can choose a representative weather station of your choice to get a general estimate for your country. Alternatively, you would get more accurate data if you completed separate projects and assigned local weather stations based on cities/regions in your country. It ultimately depends on your project goals. Thanks for your interest in i-Tree, Ana

@@rudydelsack1320 That spreadsheet is calculating a McNemar statistical test for change. You can find that test with a Google search and perform the calculations externally or using other statistical software to see if they match the spreadsheet we provided. This would likely be necessary to support any research publications anyway. Unfortunately the underlying tree canopy, human demographic, air pollution, and other spatial data sources are not freely available outside the US. At this time i-Tree Landscape only works in the US. If comparable data sets were available for other countries we could explore expanding i-Tree Landscape outside the US. The i-Tree Canopy and i-Tree Eco tools are ready for use outside the US, www.itreetools.org/support/resources-overview/i-tree-international.

Do you foresee this being extended Internationally in the future? Is there something I can do in the meantime using Cypriot addresses? Thanks - really appreciated your video

Without funding there are no plans to build out i-Tree Design to work in other countries. It is possible to use i-Tree Canopy. It is also possible to provide location information through i-Tree Database that will make it possible to use i-Tree Eco for projects in Cyprus. Through i-Tree Database you can also provide precipitation, pollution and species information. I hope this helps, Erika

It's been a few years now and I was wondering if anything has happened on the front of importing maps. Specifically importing any kind of other map, such as an urban master plan/map with a projected tree canopy that can be compared against the current situation / canopy cover.
@i-TreeTools3 жыл бұрын
i-Tree Canopy has no way to store external images. Also, the image classification is completely user guided with no automation. We encourage users that would like to use their own imagery to replicate the i-Tree Canopy methods in an external GIS. For the scenario you describe you may be able to directly capture the total projected canopy then simply apply the i-Tree Canopy multipliers shown during project configuration to estimate projected ecosystem services and their associated monetary value.

If you are interested in using any of the i-Tree tools outside the US you can check out this webpage for recommendations and limitations, www.itreetools.org/support/resources-overview/i-tree-international. i-Tree Canopy can be used anywhere in the world to estimate amounts and changes in tree canopy cover. The scosystem service estimates and monetary valuations for most countries (excluding the UK and Sweden) will be based on US data. You will have to evaluate the applicability of those methods and results to your project.

I would like to ask a question: When I use i-Tree Eco and work with a "plot sample" project, is there anyway to import trees data and shrubs data directly into i-Tree Eco? just like "complete inventory" project?(there is an "import" button) Our forest data contains about 3000 trees and hundreds of shrubs, in excel(csv) form. It is hard (will take too much time)for me to type each tree into i-Tree Eco software. If I use mobile phone to collect trees data, it will also take too much time. However, there are many shrubs so that I can only choose "plot sample" rather than "complete inventory" project. i-Tree Eco helps me a lot with evaluating ecosystem service of urban forests, thanks a lot.

Hello Tianhui Shi, It is not possible to import data for plot sample projects. Some users choose to import data for shrubs that have similar growth rates and mature structure as trees like into complete inventory projects. If you choose to do this and you want to track which ones are tree like shrubs you could use one of the custom fields to label them. These fields can be chosen when you configure your project. Then when you download results you could pull those out and consolidate their estimates separately from the trees. Best regards, Erika
