I know its an old video but ive followed it to a T, my question is how often do you deadhead? And how adamant are you about getting ever spent flower? Mine are much smaller and they take like a hour each to deadhead. Thank you! 🙏
@josiahcollett36352 ай бұрын
I never had to deadhead these. The new blooms cover the old ones. Sometimes after a rain there were some old blooms showing, but I just waited a couple days and then they disappeared.
@egz39102 ай бұрын
@@josiahcollett3635 interesting, I was always told the spent flowers go to seed and that takes energy from the plant and you won't get as many flowers... I may have to do a side by side experiment, thank you for the reply!

@@egz3910 some petunias will put more energy into producing seeds, but with enough fertilizer it shouldn’t be a problem. There are also lots of sterile varieties available now too! I primarily grow the Proven Winners Supertunias, because they don’t produce seeds.

@@josiahcollett3635 man you know your stuff..one more quick question. do you dead head that little green seed pods or just fertiliser ?
@josiahcollett36357 ай бұрын
@@Raniljayakody just fertilizer! Supertunias are actually mostly sterile, so they produce very few seeds if any. The only time you might feel like you need to deadhead is after a rain, because a lot of the flowers will melt if they stay wet too long. But if you fertilize, it only takes a few days for new flowers to cover all the old ones.

How do you keep them flowering into October? Mine are dead by September. They will be doing great throughout July and August and then suddenly, towards the end of August, one at a time the individual plants will suddenly begin with wither and die. All the leaves just shrivel up all at the same time.
@gardenfishes2 ай бұрын
Mine have done the same, I've tried dead hearing, cutting back and no luck. I do think I was not using enough fertilizer. Other thing I learned from another video, that possibly during the hot months I should have watered at least twice a day. If it has more plants (not fullness but actual plants) will need to be watered 2 to 3x a day during summer to survive and be full.
