I love my 1925 Savage 99F carbine in .30-30, such a handy little gun and fun to shoot. Was gonna get a more modern 1981 Savage 99A rifle in .243 Win. this Christmas but the FFL dealer forgot it was on layaway and sold it :(

Savage 99 are great old rifles. I own a few. 30-30 Win is a great old round. I have several old .30-30's my favorite is my bolt action Savage Super Sporter, made in 1929. 30-30 was offed in many different action types, but the lever guns were the most popular. But the bolt guns chambered guns are more accurate.

I've got a 180 series that I installed in a modified M1A fiberglass stock...just because I could. Looks kinda neat. Now I'm making a folding stock for it. Fun little gun. Interestingly, when I was working in Peru the company I was with hired security people, called 'Forza', who were equipped with mini-14s with Eotecs. They found out I was former military, so asked me if I would like to go target shooting - sure! We fired hundreds of rounds at 14,700' altitude (I was stationed at top of the Andes Mountains), and ditto the Beretta M9. Little did I know that they were assessing my abilities in case we were overrun by the terrorist group Sendero Luminoso and had to hand out weapons! Again - sure!

Demonstrations like this should help put to rest the idea that armor "expires" and becomes useless the morning after it's five year date passes. It's a warranty date, which is lawyer speak for CYA and don't accept liability past the five year mark. The materials in modern body armor are very chemically and mechanically stable compounds, barring some types of exposures like prolonged UV, certain chemicals and prolonged temperature extremes. I tell people if you buy good armor and take reasonable care of it, you will expire before it does. This vest of yours survived not just 40 years of aging but seven years of continuous duty. For most civilians who buy armor for "SHTF" or other contingencies, realistically it's rarely if ever going to be worn. It's going to sit in a nice climate controlled dwelling and will experience virtually no aging due to wear. You don't need to replace it ever five years or even every 10. Forty years probably ought not to be the goal. I mean one test doesn't establish statistical significance, and it's probably that if we tested 100 really old vests to their original NIJ standards, we'd have a few disappointments. Even still if your choice at the moment is a 40 year old vest you found in your dad's estate or at a gun show for $20 or no protection, take the former every time. That said, it's not a bad idea to have backups and to consider upgrading as technology advances. For example, today you can get a IIIA that's probably even lighter and thinner than this 1980s vintage IIA of yours, and the new IIIAs could probably laugh off 100 rounds of 9 mm before penetration became a real risk.

Body Armor is legal to civilians in ALL 50 kingdoms unless you are a convicted felon. Is the general rule..

@@kenofken9458 In the Kingdom of NY they banned it for non felon citizens thats crazy.. I had to look it up and that is a very bad Kingdom with lunatic rulers
@kenofken9458Ай бұрын
@@Oldgunguy62 There have been bills put up to try to ban it on the federal level too and in various other states. They typically get very little traction but all it takes is one mass shooting where the attacker was armored and that can change. I believe the city of Chicago also passed an ordinance a few years ago which is similar to the NY law, though the exact status of it got a bit confusing. I think it was a max $1,000 fine or something. That's nuts because I would never travel or work in most parts of that city without a soft vest anymore.

I have one of these guns and for 25 years i have loaned it to the same old guy for deer season here in Va. He fills his freezer with Deer every year with it using the factory open sights. The guy is 83 years old and he uses a ground blind on the same game trail year after year that leads to a fresh water spring. He says sometimes the deer get so close he can see their eye lashes when they blink. He's a killer and so is the gun.

I recently cleaned my 141 I got from my Grandfather. When I put it back together and tried it , it fired but when I went to pump it to eject the spent round , it pumps really hard. What did I do wrong.
@Oldgunguy62Ай бұрын
Id carefully take it apart on a clean table and go over it. It should pump smooth. Its possible some debris you shook loose is impeding the action. Use ballistol to lube it up when you put it back together. When apart look for any parts that look bent or distorted. good luck

How to develop my own loads for 400 Corbin since I found a bargain on the dies from Lee precision in wanting to try this caliber for years. 5.8 grains of long shot topped by 180 grain projectile moving at 1200 ft per second out of a 5 extended and threaded barrel. Another safe but on chronograph load is 12.2 grains of h110 backed up by 180 grain bullet, all bullets are powder coated.

For sure that gun is not made in 1916 as the it has the early pre 1906 3 screw wood on the action bar and it has the C/D style early model shell stops that are held in place by 2 short screws... This gun is made between 1900 and 1906 its a take down and those came in the 2 the year of the 1897 production and it has the ejector spring that came after 1900 but it has the early style shell stops that where made before 1906.........So its 1900-1906. I has the early style shell flag (the part that comes up with the shell and blocks the ejection port and is pushed down by the action hook screw) and some mores diffences............
