You have two options. One - Spend time at Airport, it has all what you want to kill your time and rest at a Lounge. Two - There are Airport Hotels, you shall book your stay and return to Airport when needed.

If I understood right, you have to pick them from terminal 1 - you are outside airport and family landing on terminal 3. If this is the case, there are inter Terminal bus and train service available for your family to come to terminal 1. Did I answer the question

IT was a snack (chicken Pizza) as this is only a 5 hour flight. Please watch upcoming next leg from Doha to London for more meal options. Qatar is one of the best airline for meal - it was a great experience. Thanks.
