Would you want to go to university and complete it and still be the same level of developed person as you were when you started? While you are there to get your qualification, it is there to help you grow as a more rounded and thoughtful individual. How do you think this happens without; being challenged on your views, being asked to work hard and be required discover new perspectives.

That's so true. I go to my colleague and say: hey, you know what? That solution you found was pretty smart, way to go. And he looks me with disbelief trying to figure out where's the catch. Our fathers didn't say a good word, nothing was good enough and my gen in our 40s are doing the same thing. Hope it changes

only went to UCA for a year before I transferred but professor Stengel's class was one of the most memorable of my time there. Put in the work and he'll reward you. Show up for class. It's not hard.

Is there any possible way to get the six minutes it took to watch this video back?

He is such a sweetheart! I enjoyed his class and learned so much from his courses. He expects a student to work for his or her grade and show up to class, which might be shocking for some lazy gen ed students....haha!

This is great. Dr. Stengel gives these comments just about the power they deserve, which is not much.

Dr. Stengel definitely ranks amongst the toughest of teachers I took during my college career, but I mean that not in a negative way. He challenged me to think beyond the parameters of social norms and really dive into the literature we covered. Furthermore, when I received good marks on my work, I felt a genuine sense of accomplishment and ownership. He truly makes you earn your grade, but if we are being honest here, isn't that what college is all about? I mean, realistically I shouldn't make 100k if I'm only doing 60k worth of work. Maybe that's just my thought process, but I see the value in his teaching approach and style! If you want to see Stengel be truly inspired, take his 20th-Century American Drama course. By far my favorite course in college!

Such a fun video; wonderful to see Dr. Stengel. I regretted not taking his course until I was in graduate school, and the writing sample I used to apply to PhD programs back in 1994 was a paper from his course. His class was a great next step in my thinking and writing, and I'm grateful that I had the chance to study with him.
