@5:40-6:00 -- This is not a Powerstroke comment, but Ford in general... I had an issue with 4Lo in my Explorer, which also requires a brake signal that I was unaware of. It's an 02, so the owners manual was long gone. But eventually, when I did put it in neutral, and stepped on the brake, I still couldn't get 4Lo. I chased all kinds of wiring and modules and mechanical possibilities, and it turned out to just be the switch on the brake pedal was bad. Turns out I actually had no brake lights. I assume Ford wired many of their vehicles similarly, so if you've got your foot on the brake, and you're in neutral, and you still can't get 4Lo, the easiest check is to see if your brake lights are out. If they are, then a bad brake switch is most likely why you can't get 4Lo.

Or just an H patern like they do now with the powerquad and they did in the smaller tracors in europe. I've got a 2030 and it has 16F-8R with 8 gears in low, high and reverse fully synchonised. The only thing that I do dislike is just a minor thing its that you have to stop to shift low, high or reverse. The overlap in gears also is horible but the are in sequence. And you've got 3 shifters. One high, low and reverse. One has 1st to 4th gear and the last one has a two speed powershift, you can see it as an extra high and low shifter.

@@bl688 I've had this problem with my 3020 also. It would get stuck in park. I found that either from the factory or from someone working on the tractor the cable where it connects to the park arm on passenger side of transmission was at a bad angle and would not allow it to pull the park arm out of park. I switched the cable to the other side of the clamp and that helped a lot. Also sometimes if parking on a slope it puts pressure on the transmission. If say you are pointing downhill force the shifter into reverse 1 and slowly release the clutch to release pressure off transmission. Then if pointing uphill use forward 1. Try that and see if that helps. 👍

The 4020s had the the reverse in the 4th and 7th range too. They were either blocked or deleted on the side console tractors. The purpose of that gear was a road gear for mounted cotton pickers which were mounted backwards on the tractor. Reverse was now forward. I think now after 50 to 60 years of service the shift mechanism gets sloppy and quirky and people who have never run one of these tractors gets confused because they put the shifter where they think they want it and it grinds or does nothing. I've spent thousands of hours of my life of mostly 4020s but a lot on 4010s and a 3020 powershift. I'll add that as good and reliable as the sycros were, the powershift was even better and more reliable. The 3020 has more than 20,000 hours on it and the transmission has never been touched.

@machineryd2765
@machineryd2765 2 ай бұрын
@@robertmoulton2656 thanks 1 group 31 battery really cuts down on the problems. I could see in many situations how the fast reverse could be a benefit. For me when you are in say b1 or b2 which is a very common gear say brushhogging and you want to back into a corner if you pull directly down to B reverse 1 you were going 5-6mph forward but your reverse speed is now 7-8 mph. So I usually have to make another shift going from b range to a range so I don't slip the clutch or go backwards at a crazy speed. This is the only thing I feel the syncro has on the quad. In the syncro 5th and the reverse down from 5th is about the same speed. Same with 3rd and 3rd reverse. You can idle down to try to match the speed some but not ideal when doing pto work. But having 16 gears in the quad is a big upgrade if you don't reverse frequently. My loader tractor is a 3020 powershift and I really enjoy it for a loader tractor. You can be a little tougher and shift quicker with a powershift and not worry about missing the gear like a syncro with some age on it. Thanks for the comment. I enjoy hearing others opinions.

My line is IH and MF. MF is what gave Deere and all the others the 3 point Hitch. I am learning a lot of detail about Deere from You and, I am looking to learn even more. I hauled Deere, out of Waterloo, Iowa, for 16 Years. Some went to Dealers and many went to the Port of Dundalk, Maryland. At the Port, after unloading I reloaded the smaller Tractors made in Europe. I also hauled experimental prototypes to several places where They were tested over a season, documented as to effective workability. The Tractor was then returned to the research and development place in Waterloo. One of the developments that got finalized and, put into general production, was the Nitrogen over Hydraulic front Axle. I learned a lot about Deere during this 16 years. However, I never compared features such as You are doing with Your videos. I hope to follow You even more in the near future. Thank You for this. Fergieman

WOW I bet you could tell some interesting stories. Very cool you got to see some experimental stuff. In my area it is now mostly caseih and Deere. We used to have some Massey but the dealership closed along with support for Massey. It is true Ferguson before the Massey- Ferguson merger did bring us the 3 point hitch. And it's also worth noting Deere wouldn't have been the first with a powershift transmission if Ford would have listened to their own engineer. Although I think other manufacturers at the time had some components of their tractor better than Deere the Deere's of that time seemed to be a better overall package. I appreciate you spending your time to watch my videos and it's enthusiasts like you that make this worth it. I truly appreciate the comment. 😊

I've used wider radial tyres since early eighties, currently use tyres 580 mm wide, will go pretty much everywhere, tractor has a heavy hedge cutter on back. Have to have wide tyres because of weight of hedge cutter. Tractor is fitted with BKT tyres. Best tyres I've ever had for grip . John Deere didn't offer true mfwd until 1983. You can still get 2wd tractors but mfwd is definitely more popular now. You mentioned how narrow my tires are compared to what you use there.
