GREAT video! You took some just AWESOME pics/video at the IL Train Museum (not to mention the other 'train oriented' highlights) that displayed some things I didn't get to see!! Talk about a small world, I just returned to Sat. Bch. from MY trip to Chicago area AND 1 1/2 days at the (wait for it...): Illinois Train Museum!! My main reason for trip was to attend a football (that's soccer to most Yanks) preseason 'friendly' match betwixt my beloved English Premier League team- Crystal Palace and a leading team 'Millonarios' in the Colombian Pro League, played at SeatGeek Stadium in suburban Chicago, on Jul 26. Left FL, driving my Mustang, on Jul 24 (Mon), arrived at my motel (4 mis from stadium) on Jul 25 eve, spent part of Jul 26 day, railfanning 2 Chicago area Railyards and Midway airport, then game Jul 26 eve (we lost 2-1 on a very late penalty kick call (it was a good call)). Overall it was a great match, first time in 7 years for my team in US and only time I've ever seen them live. That alone well worth my trip, but there's more. Spent Thurs sightseeing several Chicago areas, including 2 more railyards, Great Lakes Navy base (trained there 52 years ago) and all around O'Hare airport. Late afternoon headed out to my motel in Rockford IL, about 1/2 way between IL Train Museum in Union IL and great railfan location of Rochelle IL (mainlines of UP and BNSF merge/cross there, also location of UP's Global III yard, just W of town). Friday devoted to railfanning: Rochelle and UP mainline E & W of there and of BNSF mainline running WNW from Rochelle. Saturday (Jul 29) was IL Train Museum day, along with finish there on Sun. Unfortunately, I had a minor medical issue Sun eve, that included brief stay in Dixon IL hospital that night, until Mon (Jul 31) mid aft release. Back to Rockford IL motel, Mon eve, caught up on sleep, then late am Tues, thought better to return to hosp. to resolve 'maybe not over it' concern. This stay was almost 24 hrs, upon release decided to return to FL, while health issues (handled) allowed me to do so. Overall, despite the 2 brief hospital visits, had a FABULOUS 1 1/2 week vacation, arriving back home Aug 3 (Thur) at 10pm. BOTH main 'events': my 'I was there' football live game AND visit to IL Train Museum (+ all of the Midwest railfanning) were enough to give me memories that won't soon fade.

@@JackFerguson The big yellow box was lots of fun. I lived in Rochester and Lyndonville during my tenure there. SUNY ESF/Syracuse graduate. Most recently, I lived in Lyons for about 20 years and now I'm in northern Maine. I was born in NYC, and I grew up in Pinellas and Orange counties, and briefly in Cocoa so Brightline is fascinating to me. I've got lots of memories of New York Central, ACL and of course the subways. Funny, you went south, and I went north for retirement.

@andrewreynolds4949
@andrewreynolds4949 2 жыл бұрын
They built integrated abutments for a second span if that becomes necessary in the future. It's far easier and saves money long-term to build that part now rather than tack on a second part later. Since they aren't building a second track in that section for now they didn't build the second bridge decks.

@@TheRailwayDrone Sort of but not really? They think there's currently enough business to justify a half-hourly (I think?) service, but not more than that at this time. They also think as they expand their service they will eventually have a lot more traffic than their initial plan so they are planning for that now. It's a strategic decision meant to save money in both the short and long term, in different ways.
@TheRailwayDrone
@TheRailwayDrone 2 жыл бұрын
@@andrewreynolds4949 Ok but Brightline has been operating since when, 2018? If ridership hasn't increased since then, maybe it won't. Things probably will change once the Orlando route opens, but if it does, that means trains will still be slow since they would have to construct another track while the current one is in operations.
@andrewreynolds4949
@andrewreynolds4949 2 жыл бұрын
@@TheRailwayDrone Brightline has only been operating a limited service route in the Miami area since 2018. It was of relatively limited use and somewhat in competition with existing commuter rail. There will definitely be more ridership when the Orlando route and additional Miami stations open, then again when the Universal/Disney extension is built, and again with the Tampa route if and when they build that. For the initial Miami-Orlando service the single track route should be fine, and it will run that way for several years at least. Allowance for an additional track gives them more options for the future that they don't currently need, and saves money on a pricey initial investment. They seem already committed to the Universal/Disney extension, but if ridership is not as good as predicted, I imagine they will postpone or cancel plans for the Tampa route.
