Ben had a gang of 5 kids that wanted to beat him up. He agreed to fight them 1 at a time, and beat all 5! That is PROOF of his 70% "between the ears"! If it was you, you would have had to slink away or get beat up by the 5! Ben was WAY SMARTER under REAL PRESSURE!

Thank you so much for sharing this. Huge fan of Ben Hogan. Thinking, maybe we should say - there are no secrets in golf, just hard work and good thinking.

thanks for this. what initiates your downswing ?
@MrLeftyno18 күн бұрын
Hi Eric, for me it is shifting pressure onto my front foot about 3/4 of the way into my backswing, like what you would do if using a whip, I have a video infact explaining the Bullwhip effect. on my channel.
@robsaxepga27 күн бұрын
George called it, and this is in The Golfing Machine as well, "loading" in fact the entire backswing he called loading. Just like a bullwhip action.

Thank you so much read Emanuel de la Torre book and Earnest Jones and have been trying to replicate the swing. I will have to try it tomorrow but think you explained why I am looping my swing with the way you described the trowing a ball technique. Back swing up by your ear and not out away.

Yep been there, thats why Manuel would say concentrate on the target and the swing, remember the swing sends the ball, so become swing and Target obsessed if anything.

I use heavy rubber lacrosse balls. Have to be pretty strong to do this without injuring yourself! I hit wedges up to 7 irons at 50-80% speed. Makes you have a solid grip and if the club face is open you will feel it!

I saw your swing from a few years back and knew instantly that you were Right handed even though you swing Lefty. It’s how you setup at address, with a high lead shoulder, and shoulder tilt, like Phil Mickelson. I’m Left Handed and play Lefty, but just thought it was interesting.

Here's a thought I've had a long time. I think when Ben Hogan said "I have a secret, if I told you where to look, you'd know the secret". I think this could very well be his secret. Next time you're out just focus on where the club should strike: back of the ball for driver, blade of grass in front of the ball for irons. Just hold that absolute focus and swing. When I started to do that I realised this very well could be Hogan's actual secret. Try it. Let me know what you think.

definetly the wrist hinge, that was a game changer for sure,

I'm glad to see someone else talk about this. I am very stiff in the spine and can't make anything like a 90 degree shoulder turn, but with this move I can. I first noticed Jack Nicklaus doing this, but I've also seen Tiger Woods and others do it.

I also think the replanting of the lead foot helps in the correct sequencing of the downswing

It seems like his original swing was very right hand dominant but with low rotation of the arms that would cause a draw / hook. It is like he is chopping wood very hard. But, he adjusted it to get the best low flying push / cut that would always stay in the fairway. It would not run off at the end into the edge of the rough. I wonder what his fairways hit stat looked like.

After the 44 campaign, byron realized he was throwing away strokes so he charted every shot and vowed to save a stroke per round.i believe he won the first six tournaments in 1946 had enough to buy the ranch and retired. Always thought had he kept playing instead of retiring at 34 how many more majors he'd won and maybe ppl would revere byron like they do Hogan. Byron, ben and sam three golf greats . All had great swings.

Tried the 4 magic moves years ago. Think gonna try again with modified stack n tilt. I did the preset m a lil push forward n then back and let it fly. It looks non traditional but i felt doing it like that was better than incorporating the break on the back swing. I.had initially bought the book in pdf format and had audio book. It changed my game so why the heck did i move on to other swing thoughts. Gonna try again n see with a modified st

So true about the mental aspect’s significance…I used to lose my temper too easily and my score just spiralled up to the point where I wondered why I bothered playing at all. Once I got my swing stabilised through some good lessons, I grew to trust it more and relax which helped me keep cool when a poor shot occurred. At age 60 I broke 80 for the first time in my 45+ years of golf on New Year’s Eve and repeated the feat yesterday! It’s all in the mind! Next target is to break 75!

I'm 60 still want to play this game really well and you are certainly helping 😃!!

He took it more outside on the backswing in his later years no doubt to get more of a draw. As you said, he didn’t have the rotation of his younger days when he just rotated that left forearm on that very flat plane on his backswing and turned his ass off in the downswing. Thanks for this comparison. It’s the only one I’ve seen

70% or more in the mind is true is true for any of the top athletes - loads of people with better technique than Jack Nicklaus but he had incredible levels of focus and concentration. There's a limit imposed bby poorer technique that is hard to get past, Andy Murray with Federers technique would have been awesome, for example.

Be careful buying Top Flight golf balls in the US at a Golf Galaxy. I just bought (11.16.2023) two boxes, they are having a "2 boxes for $25" when normally 1 box will cost you $19.95 for Top Flight XL balls (15 balls per box). When I got home I noticed that one box did not have the usual round clear stickers closing each end. I compared the balls in the box without stickers to the box with stickers. The balls in the box without the stickers contain balls that look as if they are defect manufactured balls. They have clearly been sprayed with clearcoat in a defective manner as balls look when buying refurbished balls on the 2nd hand market. The balls that came in the box with the stickers are A+ balls that a buyer would expect to receive when buying new balls. So buyer beware. Make sure the boxes of balls that you buy have stickers at each end. And by stickers I mean the clear kind that have to be cut in order to open the box. I will be interested to see how the defective balls play. I would return the grade B/C balls but I already put my playing mark on them with a Sharpie. Unfortunately I opened the grade B/C balls first and just thought, "these balls are really poorly manufactured." It has been a while since I have purchased Top Flight balls and just assumed that their quality control had gone down hill. It was not until I opened the box with the tape on it that I realized, "hey, this box was taped shut and the other one was not. Maybe this means that there is something fishy going on." And sure enough when I inspected the balls in the taped box they look completely different.
